Hello!

I noticed that you're working on pre-1700-era profiles. This is just a reminder that certifying to work on these types of profiles means that you agree to add valid sources as outlined in the Pre-1700 Certification Quiz.

The following profile is an example lacking a valid source and only uses a family tree as the source: Von_Ley-1

A family tree on Geni, Ancestry, MyHeritage, Family Search, or any other user-generated tree (like WikiTree itself) is not a sufficient source for creating a pre-1700 profile. They may be valuable resources and may help you find original, reliable sources, but they must never be the only source.

Here is a link to the HELP page for pre-1700 profiles: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles

If you need help with this, our G2G Forum is a great place to start. You can get there by clicking the link on the Help menu.

Thanks!

Hi

Wish you a Happy New Year. May 2018 bring you all you need to be happy.

Congratulation for adding your contributions in December. Whatever the quantity of your contributions, they all count. As I always say "Quality is better than quantity" to make a great family tree.

Thank you for being a Wikitreer,

Guy Constantineau - Wikitree leader

Hi Dan, thank you for your contributions.

Please review the help page on Sources before creating or editing any more profiles. These are notations indicating where the information was obtained.

Remember to collaborate with others. This means discussing major changes to a profile with other interested parties. You can contact the profile managers using the public or private messaging systems. Everyone is happy to help out.

I hope this information is helpful as you strive to uphold the honor-code we signed.

If I can be of assistance, please let me know.

Have a super day!

Hi Dan--

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Now it is time to pick a project for the Pre-1700 profiles.

It looks like New York Project (leaders Abby Glann & Alison Andrus) or One Name Studies (leaders Maggie N and Doug Lockwood) would be a good fit with the tag you entered.

After you select a project, add the project tag to your page to receive project updates about activity.

Questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

Hi, I am Dorothy, a WikiTree mentor!! Are you enjoying your time on WikiTree so far?

Now that you have had a little time to try our site, there are a few more features you may find useful:

For instance, ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards; including some tips on writing biographies

Also a friendly reminder about adding sources and references to your profile. Sources are critically important for genealogy and you will be helping future genealogists by listing where the information you've added came from. This page describes different kinds of sources: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hi Dan

You are now a confirmed member of Wikitree. Thank you for volunteering.

Our G2G Forum is the hub of our communication. Pop in when you have time and introduce yourself or ask a question, we all love to welcome a new member :)

If there is something you are having trouble understanding or you need additional help learning how to use WikiTree, you can always contact a mentor.

Both G2G and mentors are accessible through the Help drop down menu top right of your page. There are also useful tabs at the top of your profile.

Just for fun, come and join in on our Question of the Week: Have you discovered or uncovered a fact you were once a bit hesitant to share?

Happy researching!

Hi Dan

A warm welcome to the Wikitree Family. By now you will have received an email with useful links to get you started. Take your time and browse the site to see what Wikitree has to offer.

Wikitree is different, because we have one goal: To have one big Global tree. This means we have one profile per person, and we collaborate as one big team.

When you confirm your email address, you will have the opportunity to volunteer by adding tags to your profile. These should contain what interests you in your genealogy: surnames, locations, etc.

A Greeter will then confirm your membership, and you will be able to start adding your information.

We are all volunteers here and happy to help if you need it.

I look forward to seeing you in the tree :)

Happy researching

Wendy?
