Biography

I was born in Eston Union Hospital on June 3, 1957 to my parents, George & Mildred Denning. I lived with my parents in the RM of Lacadena No. 228 until I finished high school. I attended Lacadena school for the first six years of my education and then Eston Composite for grade 7. We moved 2 miles east and 1 mile south from my grandfather's homestead to a farm 4 miles south of Lacadena as it was a better house and yard. The location was previously owned by my grandparents and inhabited by my Uncle John Denning. He passed away and the place became vacant. This put us on a different bus route and so I finished my schooling in Elrose, graduating in 1975. After I graduated I worked for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce for 2 years before going to University of Saskatchewan to get my Bachelor of Education. I received my degree in 1981 and started my teaching career in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. I subsequently held positions in Kincaid, Loreburn, Elrose, Eston, Kyle and Dinsmore. In 1998 I began my career at Cypress Hills Community College (later named Cypress Hills Regional College and then Great Plains College). I was Senior Counsellor and Head of Student Services for 12 years and then an instructor in the Adult Basic Education program for the last 5 years. In June of 2015 I retired.

I married Heather Domres on June 15, 1985 and together we raised three children on the farm at Lacadena while I taught in various schools. In 2000 we moved to the cottage development at Saskatchewan Landing to be closer to my job in Swift Current. At the time of writing this Biography (November 2020) we are both enjoying retirement, our grandchildren and travel. We spend much of our leisure time in activities in Swift Current, Kyle and at Clearwater Lake. Travel has been on hold for the last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This and the unrest in the United States due to President Trump dominate the news and stress levels among most of the world. We are very fortunate to live where we do as we are somewhat insulated from both these issues. Our families are blessed with good health, good relationships and comfortable lives.
