The pages from the books I would consider creditable. I also believe the plain Joanne story came from ancestry.
I’ve also found this. It has citations as well. v.
William Hyccocks, baptised 10/12/1609, Holy Trinity, Stratford-upon-Avon, Co Warwickshire, England.[44,88] Died 1627 & buried 18/5/1627, Holy Trinity, Stratford-upon-Avon, Co Warwickshire, England (s/o Elizabeth Wheeler - his mother remarried).[46] {Some genealogies (eg [88]) claim William emigrated to the USA & died 1645, Farmington, Hartford Co, Connecticut, USA, however this conflicts with the burial record of "William Hiccock s/o Elizabeth Wheeler".[46] A more recent study on the Farmington, USA, Hickocks found that William of Farmington was instead the s/o either Robert or Edward & not part of this family group.[11]} https://roots-boots.net/ft/hiccox.html

As far as I can see, William's origin is unknown.
