Hi translation team,

Ian told me that his BEE extension already has the possibility to translate WikiTree's interface to French. He would also offer to do a German version, but he would need somebody to translate the texts. At first glance it looks like roughly 900 texts of various word length. Would you be interested?

Kind regards
Flo

Hi Flo,

I like the spreadsheet! Have you seen these glossaries? They all include genealogical terms: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:German-English_Glossary - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Genealogy_Glossary - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Translation_Table

The last 2 should be combined at some point as it is duplicated info (it's on the project's to-do list).

Hallo Translation team,

if you like I can help to translate old handwritten German records or expanding the German - English glossary Regards Dieter

Hi Dieter,

Thank you very much for your help. I think expanding the German - English glossary would be very helpful. If you can please send me a link to what you intend to expand before hand, that would be great thanks.

Kind regards, Kylie ~ Germany project leader

Hi Kylie,

there is a German-English glossary on the glossary page from 2017 with terms from church records. I could expand them also with latin terms used in German church records. Then I could add on a second page a glossary with old occupations which are often mentioned in church records. Some of them needs also a little bit explanation. I will start to produce the lists the next days and then send to you in a private message. You can check them and put them online then. Kind regards Dieter

Sounds great Dieter, thank you!

Hi Kylie,

could you send me yor private e-mail address.

I took the existing glossary from https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Glossary_Germany with around 40 terms. I added 100 and would like to send it you to make a first check. It is not the end, it is only a start to see if that is ok and a work you would like to add to wikitree. I sent you mine on PM.

Kind regards Dieter

Translation team, I just wanted to offer my availability, as needed, if someone needs help deciphering old German script as typically found in old church records. While I do not speak German, I have, over the decades, taught myself to decipher most of the critical bits from the old German script that is so difficult to read that even my very smart, well-educated, native-born German friend blanched the first time she saw such a record. You probably have enough folks to help out, but if you don't, please know that I can help.

Hi Jillaine,

Yes, the old writings can be terrifying. So it's amazing that you taught yourself that. My respect. This knowledge is always needed.

Typically, reading help for these old documents is asked in the G2G forum. Please also look there if you can help. We look forward to your help if necessary. Welcome to the team.
