Hi Dorothy,

There is a slight typo in the connect-a-TON tag.

Thanks Tommy, I fixed it wink.

Thanks SJ!!
Hi, I’m new to WikiTree but I’ve done a lot of genealogy work years ago and I have a large database of names to add to WikiTree.

I’m pleased to be a part of your team but in the interest of openness and transparency, I’m not 100% southern.  I was born and raised in New Orleans but I have lived most of my adult life in New England.  I’m now a “snow-bird” with a home in FL and NH. I’ll look forward to being part of your team!

Chuck Cobb
Welcome Charles!! Thanks for introducing yourself, I too am not 100% southern. I was born in Connecticut, part of New England. But being in the military I traveled about, and fell in love with the south especially with the weather (and little to no snow lol). Anyway I have been in Tennessee since 2001 so I feel a connection with our southern brothers and sisters. I also lived in South Carolina Georgia and Alabama. thanks to "Uncle Sam" . Anyway, good luck and welcome aboard!!
Please explain to the newcomers what is required to participate. Will we get a list of people who arent connected? should we concentrate on adding more people to those already there? If I add a list of unrelated people  (say those buried in a specific cemetery) who dont seem to connect to anyone already there, will that count?
Aurora:

The Connect-A-Thon is more like a Add-a-thon.  You get a point for every profile you add.  The profiles you add must be connected to someone else already on WikiTree -- so you can't add a person that isn't already connected somehow. So if you add a parent, sibling, child, spouse to someone already on WikiTree, those will count. You are not trying to make connections between profiles (which is much harder).  So, no to your first question about a list and yes to your second connection about adding people to those already there.  And, no to your third question of adding unrelated people.  Dorothy? Loretta? want to chime in?
Welcome, Charles!  I'm not a southerner by birth either, but I've lived in Georgia since the 80's.  And, wherever your profiles take you, it's fine.  They all count and we're glad for you and all our new members to be here.

Good Morning!!!

For team "on-going" results go here:

https://wikitree.sdms.si/Challenges/ConnectAThon/TeamAndUser.htm

Kathy, your answer is perfect!
I dont see my name on the list. Nevermind I just realized its because I didnt do anything today/yesterday
I'm getting nowhere. I must not be doing something right.

Victoria

Just add family to people already on here. Then when youre done for the day go to the link and check your group, then your name for your points. You have added 2 today.

Hello team!  Good to see you all again!  I'm looking forward to this.  Every family that I've come across with missing kids I've made a list...  hope it helps!
by SJ Baty G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
I've done the same since the last Connect-A-Thon.    At least we'll be filling in our family lines.
Excellent idea SJ and Peggy!
Yep, I have some of those marked, too.  I'll be keeping my eye out for more between now & the Thon.
Way to go SJ!!! Any prep work would be helpful to keep us up there on the Tracker list once we get going!! Thank you!!
I have a question about what counts for the Thon. Can we add new profiles, like children for a family, and they will count? I thought we had to work from the unconnected list. From this thread, I may be wrong!!

Edit: I just found the answer to my own question. Preparing now!!

Hi Again, Team! I am back for another Thon with our Super Sweepers! I have never done the Connect-A-Thon so am educating myself on how to best do it.

Looking forward to seeing you all in July!

Edit: Memory Failure!! I did the Connect-A-Thon last year but evidently did not do a lot. Will try to do more this time so I can remember it for next year!!

Are we suppose to add our own name to the Team Roster on the team Space page?  If so, the page is showing up as Public to me and not Open.
by Tommy Buch G2G Astronaut (1.9m points)
Just added you to member list. Please click on my name below and send me your email address to get you on the team mailing list. Thanks, Dorothy B. Co-Captain.
I’ve sent it. Thanks, Tommy

I'm all signed up and ready to create profiles.  Thanks to SJ and Peggy, I've started making lists of profiles that need spouses, children, etc.

These families Gurley-19, Gurley-21 need wives, kids, etc. While fixing data doctor suggestions, I added census info to both profiles.   I didn't add them to my list since I think I'm going to concentrate on my relatives (unless of course I go off on a side-track wink)

by Kathy Zipperer G2G6 Pilot (473k points)
Way to go Kathy! Glad to have you on our Team!!
LOL, Kathy, that *never* happens...
I have actually said that my middle initial S is for side-tracked.
Kathy, that's my middle name too!  lol

Hello! I just signed up and asked to be added to this team. This will be my first marathon event, I'm excited to get into it. My first mission is going to be connecting the Governors of Arkansas - someone's gone through and added them all, but most lack even parental information, which is pretty readily available. I'm excited to join! Any tips are welcome!
by Austin Ross G2G2 (2.5k points)
Austin, the only thing I have done to prepare for the Connect-a-thon is make a list of the missing children that were never added when I started my journey with WikiTree.  It looks like you have a pretty good plan laid out for the mission! Just remember, have fun while you are working away at making Our Tree healthier.
Hey Austin! PMed you with a hint for your governors project that may or may not be helpful... good luck!

Hey everybody. Less than a week on this site, but I have my grandma's genealogy work that I have been gradually inputting as I get primary sources. So, I have a long list of all the children/siblings on the tree that I was hoping to input soon to at least get stubs out there for future enhancement. Saw the email today about Connect-A-Thon and thought it'd be a great opportunity to get it done all at once. I hate doing it without all the primary sources ready, but maybe I'll save that for a source-a-thon ;)

Have fun everyone!
by David Harris G2G1 (1.1k points)
Welcome David!  Everyone you add will be on your watchlist (get to it by going to the top right of the page -- My WikiTree -- drop down list, just before the bottom is Watchlist).  You can then just go to their name or search for them and you'll be able to add more sources as you go.  This is a super fun team!

Hi Southern Super Sweepers Team members!!! To those who have worked with us before, "welcome back". So glad to see you again.

Now that registration is officially closed for this "Connect a Thon", I wanted to welcome everyone to the team. We have a few new members who just recently joined WikiTree so if you have done these "Thons" before, please help out our new friends and make them feel at home.

To our newest members please be sure to read over our New Member How -to page sometime today (Thursday) before the "Connect a Thon"  starts, to have some idea of how WikiTree works. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:How_to_Start_Climbing_Our_Tree ...    I know you want to add your family right away but please be mindful that we are a bit different then other ancestry sites. We just have one profile per person, not several family trees with similar profiles.

When you create a profile you may see suggestions for existing profiles with similar names and dates. Take time to review these. It's an important part of how we avoid creating duplicate profiles. Not creating duplicates is much easier than "merging" them later. Be mindful also that sources are a big part of our profile biography narrative. (Sources are required to be added to profiles on Wikitree).

Please feel free to ask questions here and connect with our other members especially if you are working on the same state(s).

Seasoned members, please share your tips and advise as well and especially offer encouragement. There is no pressure to "win" this, but to have fun, help one another and build up our one great big tree here on Wikitree. Hopefully some of you will connect with others who have same ancestors and have already added their profiles, so you won't have to worry about that, and have gained new "cousins" too. So about 24 or so hours we will start our three day adventure. Hope you all are rested up and ready to go on Friday!!!!!!

We have the best Captain of all the teams!

I join Dorothy in welcoming our established members back and all of our New WikiTreer's! A quick note to our new members, tighten your seatbelt, and get ready to have some FUN!

Well, as if the thons aren't challenging enough, I'm taking this one on the road! I have my Macbook Air, iPad and iPhone charged and ready to go! My cell phone carrier may regret giving me an "Unlimited Hotspot"! cheeky Guess I will find out how good their coverage is...

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or need help; I will be a captured audience in the van for at least 2 days of the thon! lol

Let's ROCK this Thon out!

Thank you Dorothy and Loretta for the welcome messages and information. Wheeeee! It is almost here and I think I am organized and ready! I will be mostly working in Louisiana and Georgia but I have a few Texans thrown in the mix for good measure.

Looking forward to working with this team once again and thrilled to see that we have 39 on our team. Go Sweepers!!!

Good Morning!

Yesterday I was in Texas, this morning I am in Kansas, this afternoon I will be in Iowa! WiFi in the van seems to be working this morning, yeah!

I have never done this on an iPad before, so bear with me!

Good luck everyone!
by Loretta Corbin G2G6 Pilot (244k points)
Well, can we say duh, Loretta! Added 4 profiles and forgot to tap community challenge.  So 4 = 1 to thee connect a thon...duh lol
Loretta, I don't think you have to tap anything. Mine are counting and I just add a profile and source and move on.

Maybe you checked before the tracker had updated.
Thank you. Thought I had lost my mind!
No, no, no - we don't want that to happen!! Glad I could relieve that bit of stress!!

Hey Super Sweepers! I don't know if anyone is checking on the chat right now but just thought I would offer a suggestion for our newer members. Don't worry about fully sourcing a profile that  you add. Just add a profile, then add one source and move on to the next. Keep a list of new profiles and go back after the Thon and finish sourcing them.

It is tempting sometimes to keep adding those sources but they don't count for this event. Have fun and keep on adding!!

Y’all are doing a GREAT JOB!!!!

As for myself, not so great, I miss my computer. For those of you who work on your phones and iPads, hats off to you!!!!

Hopefully I will have better luck tomorrow!

Keep up the great work!
by Loretta Corbin G2G6 Pilot (244k points)
I can't imagine.  I'm so slow without a physical keyboard.  I'm slow enough as it is, sidetracking like I do. At least your wifi is working.  What a journey!  Be safe!
For some reason I thought this would be much easier than it actually is. My granny van doesn’t have all the cool stuff that 007’s does! Lol

In a few short miles, we will be in Wisconsin. I wished I had had the time to dig in the tombs of all the genealogy libraries we have passed along the way.

Keep the great work!
