Hear Ye, Hear Ye

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Please remember to concentrate on those Notables who have already passed (died), so that we can see their profiles. If you create a profile for a living Notable, that profile WILL GO UNLISTED and no one can see it except for the PM and anyone on the trusted list!

And remember - Notables should have a Wikipedia page at the very least to qualify. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Whose Who or a NATIONAL Biography  is acceptable as well. And they should be DEAD!

Actor Hal Holbrook died at the age of 95 about a week ago, but the news reports just came out today. He does not appear to have a current profile out there.

Hi Scott,

I was so very sorry to hear of his death. He was an excellent and versatile actor, yet most well known for his portrayals of Mark Twain. Even the words 'led a full life' doesn't lessen the loss.

Captain Sir Thomas Moore, a British veteran, died this week from Covid. AKA Captain Tom.

He did a lot of raising money for charity in the UK.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Tom

Already reported in g2g

by Robynne Lozier G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
Hi Robynne,

We got to know "Captain Sir Tom' over the past year during this pandemic. It was heartwarming to see this centenarian soldier soldiering on to raise money for combatting Covid-19. Even though he died from the virus, he fought the good fight and many will benefit from his charity work.

Actor Christopher Plummer (Sound of Music, National Treasure, ST5: The Undiscovered Country) has died.

Announcement in the G2G

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1182473/christopher-plummer-has-died-he-was-91-years-old

I assume this is his (currently unlisted) profile - managed by Wikitree Notables Project. Scott should be able to open it up!!  (says born in 1920s which is correct)

This month, I'm researching McNair and White. I haven't looked at Whites yet, but I did find that, while ThePeerage.com lists 17 deceased McNairs. Of those, none had a profile on WikiTree.

The McNair entry on Wikipedia lists 22 deceased McNairs. Of those, six had profiles on WikiTree, and of those six, only three are connected to the main tree.

So I added Sir Arnold Duncan McNair, First Baron McNair, since he is listed on both ThePeerage.com and Wikipedia, so adding him improved the scores for both. (And, in researching his profile, I came to the conclusion that he was a pretty significant guy.)

I don't know if singer Engelbert Humperdinck has a profile. I just read that his wife died of Covid-19. Article in Dutch

Edit: I know she herself might not be a notable. But she is the wife of a notable which is why I posted it here.

He was born Arnold Dorsey. Dorsey-2097 may be his profile.

by Ann Browning G2G6 Mach 7 (77.1k points)
Welcome to the Notables Team!
Just added this one Fulham-89 but don't know how to add notables badge as new to site. Doing the England OT at the moment but haven't worked out how the badges/stickers get added.

Regards,

Ann
Normally, the best route is to ensure the Wikipedia link is added to the profile, so that there's no question as to whether or not he's a Notable. You would put this in the Sources.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Fulham

Once you've added that, you should add the Notables Sticker to the profile.

{{Notables Sticker}}

This should go directly below the Biography header, which looks like:

== Biography ==

Let me know if you have any questions.
Done. Hope it's OK.
Everything looks good to me. Thanks!
Hi Scott,

Just found one of my Turners who was a D.D. On Wikipedia. The details on there are very brief and not entirely accurate. So, do I alter the Wikipedia entry and correct (have never done that so not sure how to go about it) then make a profile or do I make the profile and then correct the Wikipedia page?

Regards,

Ann

Fashion designer Charles Frederick Worth is now connected to the global tree.  The connection path runs through the Cartier family of jewelers, which I plan to continue working on during this month.

I also wish to offer a special thanks to Natalie Trott for clipping a newspaper article that was very helpful in sourcing the connection pathway.

Nabi artists Édouard Vuillard, Ker-Xavier Roussel, and Paul Ranson are now connected to the global tree.

Nice work, Greg! I've been working all month to connect one guy and you're picking up my slack. Thanks!
Thank you, Greg. Happy to help in any small way I can.

Songwriter Irving Berlin is now connected to the global tree.

Saw that he had a profile and glad that someone was able to update him with his date of death. Looks like he is connected already, too.
Recently there was a notable death which was reported before it actually occurred, so I just want to check if anyone knows of  any controversy over the passing of Larry Flint ? Because his new FindAGrave memorial has been removed from their site.
never mind ... found there no notie about another memorial
I updated to link to the new memorial.
there must be some kind of problem somewhere, because the memorial number is right, but when I click on your link in this forum, I get a message that it has been removed. But this link inside the profile works well.
I fixed it (again)

I can probably help with any WW2 pilots including Czechs, Poles. Plus I may be able to look at some of the Russians and Ukrainians as I speak Russian and understand enough Ukrainian to get by. I would suggest anyone researching allied air crew go to the forum on the RAF Commands website which is frequented by researchers from all over the world.

Ann

How would you feel about working on Cosmonauts?

Happy t help with any Russian translation. Russian to English you really need a Russian native speaker to do English to Russian, plus it takes me ages to type

Regards,

Ann

I have got to get caught up on my reading! This morning, while I was reading a copy of The Economist from December, I came across this article: "Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander: Economists are rediscovering a lost heroine." Reading through it, I realised that I should have suggested Sadie for the "change makers" challenge a couple of weeks back. But she does have a profile on WikiTree, so at least that's a start. But it would be nice to see her connected.

Very sad news.
Definitely sad to see him go. Another thread was started on this as well, and it appears that his date of death has been updated - so his profile is open now for those who might want to improve upon it.

I would like to join the Notables Project. I am currently working on fleshing out the profiles for Clark Gabel, his five wives, and their families which are full of notables and semi-notables. I have connected the sisters of Gable's first wife, Josephine Dillon, who included opera prima donnas Enrica Clay and Vera Dillon, and composer Fanny Dillon. This family also had some prominent Southern California notables, ranging from an LA District Attorney to an inmate at San Quinton. Fascinating family and lots of fun to work on.
