Quest for Great-Grandparents: Medical Edition - Second Opinion

For this great-grandparent challenge, in honour of all the front-line workers who have been risking their lives to save ours, I am featuring more medical figures. Most of these people are not connected to the main tree, and none of them have a full set of great-grandparents listed on WikiTree. In order for us to add a list to the Relationship Finder Quick Links page, each person on it needs to have at least one line going back as far as their great-grandparents (and preferably all eight lines).

The task is to seek out, source, and add profiles for as many missing great-grandparents as you can find. The rules are the same as for the first Quest for Great-Grandparents: Medical Edition.

Name Connected? Great-grandparents
David Bruce (Australia) Yes! 0
Maurice Hilleman (USA) Yes 7
Edward Jenner (England) Yes 0
Joseph James Kinyoun (USA) Yes 3
Lyla Mae Olson (USA) Yes 0
Louis Pasteur (France) Yes 8!
Charles Pravaz (France) No 0
Francis Rynd (Ireland) Yes! 6
Ignaz Semmelweis (Hungary) No 0
Rudolf Weigl (Poland) No 0
Alexander Wood (Scotland) Yes! 8!
Christopher Wren (England) Yes 4
Wu Lien-teh (Malaysia) Yes 0

I finally added the final four profiles to bring this challenge up to 14 people. Currently, it's tied for 17th place in terms of percent complete, at 30.4%. In terms of great-grandparents still to find, it's in a three-way tie for 16th place, at 78.

Somebody has added all eight of Louis Pasteur's great-grandparents. That moves this challenge up to sixteenth place in terms of percent complete, at 37.5%. In terms of great-grandparents still to find, it's in 15th place, at 70.

I'll take a look at Alexander Wood.  His parents were cousins, according to Wikipedia, so the pedigree collapse should help increase the number of ancestors with the least possible effort, no?

Also, he was born on my birthday...

okay, i got all 8 (two of them are the same couple, but i'm not going to say that made it easier, because although one Wood/Wood marriage was between cousins, another was between what appears to be unrelated Wood families, and with all the forenames being the same as well, it was tricky).

This family is not yet connected to the tree.  It seems to have lots of other notables.  Tomorrow i will have another look for the purpose of getting connected.  There are other sources available as well - but i'm done for tonight! cheeky

I found some duplicate profiles for one set of great grandparents - [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nairne-76 Anne Nairne] and her husband Alexander Wood.  Alex's profile was bare bones, but when the merge is completed re Anne, the pedigree goes back to 1510.  Just a single line of descendants, though, so i will keep looking for other connections.

Merges are done, thanks to Greg Webber for a very quick response! So Dr. Wood is connected to the tree.

Also found a pedigree for his wife.  So hopefully there is a rather robust tree for connections now!

Splendid work, Shirlea!

I just found a marriage of a nephew that connects Dr Wood to a United Empire Loyalist family, which should give a lot more North American connections.

I'll take on Francis Rynd.  I've always wanted to have a go at one of your challenges, Greg, so happy to do this.

All the best,

Right, that's Rynd connected to the global tree and six of his eight great-grandparents accounted for.  Can anyone identify the parents of [[Irvine-4520|Mary Marshall Irvine]]?

Oh, wow! Connected to the main tree, and six great-grandparents in only 32 minutes? That has to be some kind of record!

Thanks, Greg.  To be fair, Rynd was from the Anglo-Irish gentry, so there's pretty good (and easily accessible) secondary material on most of his immediate ancestors.
