Parents of Philip Joseph Thiem, Sr.

Question

Can anyone help me find family records for the parents of Phillip Joseph Thiem of Bavaria, Germany? I don't read German, so searching German records is not very helpful for me. Philip Joseph Thiem Sr was born in 1830 in Bavaria and arrived in the US in 1842. If you look at the 1850 Census that you cited, he was 20 years old and lived in the home of Emanual Schloss and many other unrelated Germans. I have traced back to Philip Joseph Thiem and I have been unable to find any other information about his parents or port of entry. I read in his eulogy that he came over with his uncle and lived in Baltimore until 1859 and then moved to Raleigh, NC where he married and had children.

There are three other trees on Ancestry that have all dead ended at Philip Joseph. No one seems to know his parents or the name of the potential uncle companion.

That was your daughter? What a small world! I gave her everything I had on Phillip and suggested some research avenues she might try. I think looking for ships manifests for the Port of Baltimore during the correct timeframe might yield some useful information.
