I am a white woman interested in finding out how she is related to her black third cousins, evidently we share Irish ancestry. Some of their last names are Booker and Thompson, my paternal ancestry is English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh. I did not come up as having African ancestry however, some of my distant white cousins did (as in one percent).
I contacted one cousin who guilt tripped me stating my white ancestor raped his; very inappropriate, and I am not responsible for what my ancestors did or did not do. I made brief contact with my other cousin but she did not seem open to a relationship.
Since our relationship is fairly close I would certainly like to know if I actually had a great-great grandfather or grandmother who was black and what their lives may have been like (i.e. does slavery exist in my family tree).
