In James' FindAGrave there is a photo of him in full Scot gear, my question is - is this a clan outfit, or something more?

The person who uploaded the photograph has tagged it with -- My paternal grandfather James Dalrymple in his Royal Scots kilt. He was instrumental of the founding of the Black Watch in Montreal. Date of photo unknown.

Here's a link to a picture of the uniform of the Black Watch (Highland Regiment of Canada):

This one is an officer's uniform, so, depending on your ancestor's rank, it may vary somewhat.

I can't help but think two items are of significance -- the (rank?) insignia or patch, or whatever it is on the right sleeve, and the brooch, or whatever it is on the sporran.

Thank you so much. I'd never heard of the Black Watch before.  They have an awesome history.
