West Prussia or Poland for Birth Location

Question

I am a new WikiTree member and in the process of building my tree.  My father was born in Borzechowo, Pomerania, Poland in 1937.  His grandmother was born in Bordzichow, Danzig, West Prussia.  They are the same location but because of their birth dates, different location names.  I would like to know how would be the best way to write my West Prussia ancestor's birth locations if they were born during the West Prussian Partition.  Should I use the West Prussian town name or should I use the Polish town name, or some variation that shows both.

Personally I prefer to use the place name that was in effect at the time of the record.  You can add information clarifying the place of birth in the biography section.   I found this on Wikipedia (may not be same town you are referring to)

Thank you, I wasn't sure if there was any standardized WikiTree formatting for Poland during the partitions.  I have several hundred people to add so before I start, I want to do it the best way the first time.  So if I use the West Prussian location for my ancestors, will they show up in searches for people in Poland or just West Prussia?  And yes, that is Borzechowo.

Adding a different birth place in a search can limit the results.  I think most people will leave the birth place blank unless they are looking for someone with a very common surname.

Place names should be used according to the time and in the language the people used at that time there. That means 1937: Bordzichow, Danzig, Westpreußen, Preußen, Deutschland
