This is my now deceased father in law, Robert (Bob) Dods, he was an avid fisherman. I'm really unsure about a date for this photo, probably between 1967 and 1970, before I met him. Location; Ontario Canada, perhaps in the Bobcaygeon area. There are other pictures of him on other occasions with his catch, seems like he knew what he was doing.

Well said, M: "seems like he knew what he was doing."  I have a photo of my father carrying fish he caught, the same size as these, but it was one fish.  Good photo.

This is a photo taken in 1968 of my first cousin Jeffery Marvin. He is number 63 top left. This probably was one of the happiest times in his life. He often talked about his high school football days. Sadly, the next year he was drafted and sent to Vietnam where he was wounded twice.

by Alexis Nelson G2G6 Pilot (854k points)
Alexis, upon viewing Jeffery's childhood photos, I was saddened by him having to be sent off to war.
John, thank you for your viewing Jeffery’s profile. I think you can probably understand from seeing the photos of Jeffery, that the Vietnam War was not a good thing for him. He had been athletic and popular in high school, but the transition from that to a jungle war was traumatic for him.
Alexis amazing photo with your cousin what a exciting photo thank you for sharing
Susan, thank you for the nice comment about Jeffery. He and his sister spent a deal of time at our house, since their grandmother lived with my mother and me.

From my postcard collection this photo sent from Wakefield, West Riding, Yorkshire in 1904 shows a child wading and is called "The Sports of Children" reminding us that what was called sport changes from century to century.

So cute.....Pat.....the mention of your postcard collection inspired me to think of my assortment of postcards in a different way.
Thank you, John.  I love old postcards.  They show places as they previously looked with buildings that don't exist and life that was lived differently. Even old Chromes from the 1960s are interesting.  I put mine in albums.
Pat what a wonderful sweet photo of a adorable little girl thank you for sharing love the photo

Thank you, Susan smiley

Watersports......1930's Okanagan Lake, British Columbia, Canada......from my father's photo album.

by John Thompson G2G6 Pilot (353k points)
Fantastic, John.  Great pics.  I tried and failed at water skiing. It's not as easy as it looks but I'll bet it's great fun.  I certainly enjoyed watching others.

Pat, I thought they were water skiing until I looked closer and realized they were acquaplaning (sport), which I had the opportunity to learn in the summer of '62.....so easy and fun, just stand up as the boat tows the board......my first attempt at water skiing had me sit back down as the skis slid out in front of me!  surprise

Thanks for the link, John.  I had no idea it was earlier than water skiing.
John, I always enjoy seeing the wonderful photos from the your father’s album. I especially love these! We purposely moved to the part of Oklahoma where we live because of the lakes and being able to enjoy water sports. Thank you for sharing these great sports photos.
Amazing photo John thank you for sharing
Thankyou Susan, my father shared his journey through life with me, enough, that I can identify many photos, although many have no written description.

Robert "Fess" Anderson

My Maternal Grandfather Andrew "Gumps" Anderson's older brother Robert "Fess"  Anderson is a name synonymous with hockey in Glace Bay. He grew up in the Coal Mining Village of  Donkin Nova Scotia, one of 12 children, where apair, of skates was a luxury.

His older brother James "Fiddler"Anderson , who worked in Caledonia mine, bought a pair of skates. These skates were usually locked away but Fess and his brother Roderick "Roddie" Anderson, soon learned to pick the lock The first one home from school got to use the skates, and many fights were had over the skates. In order for their mother Elizabeth (Baxter) Anderson (1892-1979) to settle the problem, she would often give each boy a skate so they would play hockey on one skate. Early hockey was played on the ponds in Donkin At 16 years of age, Fess was playing with the Donkin Royals which won the Nova Seotia Intermediate Championship He then played with the Glace Bay Sonoco's of the Commercial League

In 1937-38, Fess was with the Glace Bay Miners who won the Nova Scotia Senior Title. Following this, he was asked to tryout with the Montreal Canadiens. They wanted Fess to play with the Montreal Royals of the Quebec Senior League. Like many Cape Bretoner, Fess decided to return home.

In 1940-41, Fess played with the Sydney Millionaires. This year, controversy erupted over the use of goaltending by Glace Bay in the finals Fess also played with Northside Victorias before returning to Glace Bay. He played until 1953 and afterward began coaching at the minor hockey level and refereed games, Fess was one of the participants for the first face off in the 1939. first game at the opening of the Glace Bay Forum in Glace Bay.

Brian, it's a pleasant surprise to see "Fess" here, in his hockey uniform, as I had been recently studying your work and discovered the town of Donkin.....I have Donkin ancestors, from Northumberland, England, who came to Nova Scotia.
Thanks John I appreciate the comment that you are finding some value in my Donkin One Pkace Study - not only is it my Grandfather's Home Village but I was fascinated by how Diverse it was in 1921 on the Canadian Census.

I've posted a few videos about Donin mostly about Fess' mother my Great Grandnother.

Well, I almost missed out this month!  This photo is of my husband David and his son kayaking on Coles Bay in Freycinet National Park in Tasmania, Australia in November 2010.

Though David was an accomplished surfer, this was his first kayaking outing. His son, though, regularly enjoyed kayaking. Later I went out as well... but we won't talk about that.

Robin, the various colors and how they contrast, immediately caught my attention.....I enjoyed the photo.
Thank you, John!

Robin, so glad you shared this wonderful photo of David and his son kayaking in a part of our world that I know very little about. What a beautiful photo!heart

Thank you, Alexis! It was very beautiful and if things work out I will get to return to visit my step-son this year.
Robin, I sure am hoping that you get to visit your stepson. What a fabulous trip that must be. It certainly does look beautiful. It is so very good that you and David’s son have a close relationship—even though you live so very far from each other.
Wonderful photo of David and his son what a treasure to be

Thank you for sharing sweet Robin
Thank you, sweet Susan!!

Our family has always liked sports, whether watching on tv or playing in the backyard. Most of out family gatherings included games of some sort.

This is a photo of my Dad and his work buddy, Big John. Our families got together for a Labor Day picnic. Of course there was a game of wiffle ball!

Reminds me of a spontaneous baseball game that was had at a friend's yard during a barbecue.
