2023 WikiTree Challenge 11: The week has ended to research for the Kentucky Genealogical Society (KYGS) [closed]

Hello WikiTreers!

In each WikiTree Challenge we partner with another group in the worldwide genealogy community. Together we research seven degrees of connections for seven starting people chosen by our partner.

Challenge #11 was a lot of fun! Our partner was the Kentucky Genealogical Society (KYGS). They are an enthusiastic group of genealogists and family researchers who first came together in 1973 -- 50 years ago!  The first president, Charles Edwin Shelby, considered Kentucky one of the more important research centers in the country. Their membership has continued to grow every year.

Our week began Thursday, June 22, at noon EDT (4pm UTC) and ended June 29, at noon EDT. You didn't need any particular skills to participate, so everyone was welcome to join us.

Discoveries, questions, and bounty claims were posted under the seven starting profiles (comments at the top are hidden once read).  We chatted in Discord, and were excited to see the encouragement and collaboration there.

We rocked this week!

closed with the note: Thank you for participating! See you for the next challenge.

Just connected Alice Spencer (Geddes) Lloyd. Added grandmother she was named after and was able to connect that grandmother as daughter to an existing Eseck Spencer who's father's side goes back pretty far
New profile ID was Spencer-27779 and profile that was already on WikiTree was Spencer-8982

Cora Wilson Stewart is now connected via her second husband, Alexander Stewart. He had a WT profile that just needed to connect. Stewart-4292

Looks like fun! I'm in. Researching the Millers of Edmonson/formerly Grayson County--Samuel Miller, 1758-1827, and Barbara Kingery/Gingerich, abt. 1764-1910. Also following surnames Hayward, Sinnett/Senate, and Hannon (sp), who passed through Kentucky, late 1790s-1820s, on their way West.

Hi, I will do what I can.  I have a hard copy of my family genealogy, through my father, entitled: The Felty Family of Butler County Kentucky.  It was complied by Harrison Ray Felty, and edited by Ira Odell Felty and Kathleen M Beckman. (1999).

I've never used Discord though I signed up once, a while ago. Maybe late 2022.

Hi Beverly, you will just need to follow the link to the WikiTree Discord server so I can get you set up there.

by Kathleen Bleeker G2G1 (1.6k points)

Hi Kathleen. Registration is over for this challenge, but you can still join us if you want. You just won't go on the scoresheet. If you are looking for help for your own Kentucky ancestor, we are chatting in Discord.

I didn't make much progress. I was able to find sources and improve the biography of my husband's great-grandfather [[Finley-3423|Harry Lewis Finley]] who was born in Kentucky and resided there for many years.  I found that he had been a farmer. I also had a chance to use the Sourcer Extention. Thank you.

I can't get to it on Discord. I signed up and it keeps asking me to claim my account but then says my email is already used.

Pretty sure my father was a member of the KYGS at some point.  I’m entering information he gathered on WikiTree this week. Surnames Jones, Hutcherson, Cowley, Arms, Henderson… Primarily in Hardin County.

Broke through a Brick Wall with Uriah Holley's parents. Holley-2651. His Father is John Halley-473 and his mother Nancy Douglas. John's will listed his children and several other sources. I found a picture listing a page of information of him taking gaurdianship of his Uncle's Children Benjamin Halley. This was more a name mispelling or change over this generation.

I asked to be added, and you replied I am, but I do not see my name on the scoresheet.  Does it only show after I make a connection?
