Hello, I am transcribing some documents, and I have problem with some letters. I need review of text and transcription of signature for German letter, from 1970. And I need transcription of two words in English letter that I cannot read. Thank You for any help.

Text:

[*A: 12-2-70*]

Sehr verehrte Frau Professor Arendt,

lassen Sie mich Ihnen auf diesem Wege meine

aufrichtige Anteilnahme an dem plötzlichen

Tode Ihres Gatten aussprechen. Ich habe leider

erst jetzt von dem tragischen Ereignis Kenntnis

erhalten.

Gatte in meiner Erinnerung lebendig bleibt.

Ihr

[Albert?] [Reiss?]

München,

am 24.11.1970

Text:

Mein liebes Hannahchen,

Your letter of the 8” Nov.

I am terribly sorry to read your bad news.

Though I never met your husband, I could

understand how much he meant for you and

I grieve for you. You will feel his absence

very much.

The last 2 months of the year are always

crucial years for people over a certain age.

Naturally — vitality is at its lowest.

[Fou???] went in December and most of the

[Molbushewitch?] at about the same time.

With much love,

Niouta.

In the German letter I read:

  • "mit Ihrem verewigten Gatten" in line 9
  • "dem ich zwar nur" in line 12
  • "Wenn auch Worte gegenüber" in line 16
  • "A…t Reif" in line 23, neither Albert nor Adelbert blush

Edit: But I like to add, that Adelbert Reif and Hannah Arendt were in contact in 1970.

In the English letter I read:

  • "Foupre"
  • "Wilbushewitch" > see Manya Wilbushewitch / Manya Shochat

German letter:

It should be read as Adelbert Reif :-)

English letter:

sorry, I have no idea for the first name (someone who died in winter), the second word in question I read "Wilbushewitch" (but might be wrong as well)

(Oh, and I was not certain, wether this was in question: "A: 12-2-70" would be the date that the German letter was answered)

Kind regards

Heike
