So John McAlister, son of age of John McAlister and his widow Ann McNeal, residents of County Antrim, Ireland, married Catherine McCambridge, daughter of age of Patrick McCambridge and Ann McDonnell, both of whom had passed away, both previous residents of County Antrim. They were married on the 20th of October 1847. John's brother, Alexander, was one of the witnesses, and he signed his name along with John and the other witness, but Catherine did not know how to write so she was unable to sign the register.

Yes, he was a day labourer and both bride and groom were living in the parish where they were married.

S means Sépulture which is burial. B for baptism, M for marriage.

Some of the handwriting is tricky to read but here's my attempt at reading and translating it:

October 20 1847, after the publication of a marriage band without impeachment or opposition, the expense of two bands having been obtained of Mr. Pierre Billaudele the grand (?) of the bishop of Montreal, the undersigned priest, autonomous and great effect taken the mutual consent by word of present John McAlister, daily laborer in this parish, adult son of John McAlister and of deceased Ann McNeal of the county of Antrim in Ireland of one part, and of Catherine McCambridge domicile in this parish adult daughter of deceased Patrick McCambridge worker and Ann McDowell of the county of Antrim in Ireland of the other part; I married them according to the laws and observed customs in the holy church in the presence of Jean Baptiste Sancer, of Alexander McCambridge brother of the bride, of Maria McCrea undersigned, with (?) and with other (?), without the signature of the bride, having declared cannot write.
