There was  a Percy Stoner christened 21 Mar 1880 in Sussex whose mother was Rose Stoner.

There was a Henry Percival John Stoner christened in 1899.

Another Percival John Stoner was christened in 1905.

Each of the three above Percy Stoner's show at least one parent, the second two show both parents.

Would you know the birth date or christening date of your Percy Stoner? Sometimes a death date can also lead to the names of the parents.

Thankyou for the information the Percival John Stoner christened 1905 was my great grandfather. he died 1995 in Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. i am assuming the three you have are all brothers as there were 5 of them. and the dates are too close to be otherwise. and the name Rose is my grandfathers Great Grandmother. i know he had a wife named Patricia and two children, a daughter named Jill and a Son named John Clive Stoner while they were in England and in 1946 moved with the Royal British Navy to Devonport, Auckland New Zealand, where they lived till they died. John Clive is my Grandfather who married Ina Robina Terease Ramson. I would love to keep in contact with you over email, mine is connorbovis@hotmail.co.nz. so glad i could get some information. do you know how the other two leads are related to My Percy as i would love to finalise this before his son dies. Thanks a million Melissa Stoner i have a big task so any help would be appreciated.

This information was found at familysearch.org

name: Percival John Stoner
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 25 Feb 1905
baptism/christening place: Cuckfield, Sussex, England
birth date:
birthplace:
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: Ernest Stephen Stoner
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Harriett

It looks like Percy had a brother Archibald. Ernest Stephen Stoner married Harriet French in 1892. They had Archibald Maurice Stoner in 1896, the Percival John Stoner in 1905.

Since you said that the Percival Stoner born in 1905 was the right person, by going to familysearch.org and entering the names of his parents, it ws assumed that they married no later than 1905.  Then by giving the marriage date a 15 year range back to 1890, the search showed the exact marriage date and the name of another son.

Not sure if you still need info but I am Percy's great nephew. I was talking about Percy with my mother and googled him, saw your query. My wife worked out a full family history a year or two ago.

I met Percy a couple of times- very nice man! My mother recalls him giving her a ride on his motorbike.

There is an Ancestry tree that has a few problems and may not match your wife's research.  I haven't found the marriage to Patricia Long in England and Wales.  She may be in the 1939 Register with Percival S(!) Stoner and Jell D(!) Stoner but as a closed record.
I believe Pat was a New Zealander and Percy was I think seconded to RNZN during the war; they may have married there? Having said that Long was my maternal grandmother's birth name and her oldest daughter was Pat Stoner; these are different people.
Now I am confused, Nick.  Yes, Melissa's Percy is the RNZN man but she said their children were Clive John and Jill and I found those Stoner births in Portsmouth RD with mmn Long, John C 2Q1940 and Jill D 4Q1937.

I assumed Percival J and Jill D were mistranscribed in the 1939 Register.  Melissa's Ancestry tree seems to have quite a few errors.  Might Pat have been born in NZ before the other two in Portsmouth?

I don't hold any certificates but have a general interest in UK Stoners, with data at www.stoner.org.uk

Alan.
Sorry Alan there are two Pat Stoners- my aunt, oldest daughter of my grandfather Harold Victor Stoner and Gladys Ruby Stoner (nee Long but subsequently Sydenham), and the Pat who married Percy, Harold Victor's youngest brother, whom I believe was a New Zealander (though possibly borne in the UK). They may well have married in NZ but I'm not sure. Jill and John are their children.

I think Percy and my grandfather had 3 other brothers, 2 of them hairdressers in Hove.

One question- you*re not the Alan Stoner who lives in Bexleyheath are you?

I think there were six brothers in all - http://www.stoner.org.uk/stoner2008/Fe2f.html#M745.

And no, I'm in Cirencester nowadays.
Hello

I would really love to see a photo of Percival John Stoner if someone could please email me an image I'd be v.grateful.  My dad served under him on board the HMS Braithwaite 1944-1945.

Cheers Moya
