The mission of the US Southern Colonies project is to add and improve profiles of early and significant US Southern Colonists - Colonial Americans who lived in what is now the southern part of the United States of America. Project members take primary responsibility for relevant profiles or family groups and work on merging duplicates, cleaning up profiles, adding sources, and removing incorrect information.

Please post here if you would like to join.  Here is our project to page:

Kimberly, we're currently rethinking the US Southern Colonies project.  When we've figured it out, we'll have a new announcement.
Hello,

I would like to join this project. I have many, many ancestors in the Southern States of Colonial America (primarily Virginia & the Carolinas). My ancestors are from the Prater/Prather, Green/Greene, Crawford, Hallum, Meriwether, Hargis, Bates, Hubbard, Parks, Tubbs, Rucker, & Wasson, to name a few.

Amy, as the opening post states, The US Southern Colonies project is being re-organized; we will open a new thread when we've figured it all out.

I encourage you to check out the Virginia and North Carolina projects.

I would like to join the Southern Colonists Project
Yes I would. Jillaine let me know that it was currently being reorganized. Unsure when I should apply again & it'll be ready. Amy
When we're able to get to it, we will post a new announcement. It may take awhile. Other priorities and pandemics are hindering our progress.
In the meantime, consider joining the Virginia and/or Maryland projects.
I want to join this project?  What do I need to do?  My family is from Virginia 1700 s.  tnx  David W. Green

David, as the comments above indicate,

as the opening post states, The US Southern Colonies project is being re-organized; we will open a new thread when we've figured it all out.

In the meantime, I encourage you to check out the Virginia project.

I would like to join the Southern Colonies Project. I would love to be on the biography team.

All in due time, I have profiles that will either augment or add to the WikiTree of Southern Colonial ethnicity or heritage. My AncestryDNA identified that the areas that ancestors most strongly affected in terms of migration were both South Carolina and North Carolina settlers. As I work toward my own migration of data from Ancestry.com, we'll see how it all falls out - I do know just from casual conversation with family through the years that NC roots are especially strong and go back to pre-colonial times.

So it only seems reasonable to make the ask for a Southern Colonies badge (I believe I have already subscribed to the tag).

Thanks,

I thought I'd posted a request, but it looks like I didn't, so...sorry if this is a double-request, but I'd like to join this project. My 10th great-grandfather was John Woodsen, who was a "doctor" of the Jamestown colony beginning in 1619. I have multiple pre-revolutionary lines and my family were some of the first settlers of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri. Some of my surnames are Woodsen, Wallace, Cole, Lewis, Sallee, Morris, and Schoolfield, Cherry and English (that one is my husband's, but also my kids'). :)

I would love to join the US Southern Colonies Project. The majority of my ancestors (as well as my husband's) have lived in the southern region of the US. Prior to that, Germany, England, Ireland, Switzerland, etc.

I would like to participate in this project.  Researching nearly colonists of North Carolina Scottish heritage who arrived in North Carolina around 1739 and settled in the Cross Creek area of Cumberland County, NC.  My family ancestor is Duncan McLerran (McLearan, McLaurin, McLerran, McLaren).

Don't know who I missed this project, but I'm in the Deep South–south Georgia. I do copious research partly out of curiosity, but mainly helping others with their research. The Wanderer and The Weeping Time are two of my latest projects; however, slavery and slave ownership are my areas of general interest. It's very difficult linking individuals to slave ancestors, but I'm a data miner that won't quit. I'd like to be part of the Southern Colonies Project.

I would like to join the US Southern Colonies Project. My family can be traced back many generations in NC. I imagine there may be some connections with early colonists. Also, I enjoy learning about history and visiting historical sites around the state. If there is any way I can contribute, I'd be happy to.

I would like to join. I am a direct descendant of William Stone, 3rd Proprietary Governor of Maryland (c. 1603 - c. 1660). He was an English pioneer and an early settler in Maryland. He was governor of the colony of Maryland from 1649 to 1655.

Who's surprised to be a descendant of early settlers in the 13 colonies? Me. Becoming involved with you will be an unfolding of history, and I am taking it in with all my heart and soul for there is much to celebrate!

So far all my maternal ancestors migrated from Virginia > Kentucky or Tennessee > Missouri  and with the exception of two gentlemen from Prussia, all my paternal ancestors came via Spain > New Spain > New Mexico.  Sounds like the perfect project for me.  Count me in.
