need help editing profiles using a "retired" template [closed]

Question

Hi! If you haven't noticed, the Recognition Boxes & User Boxes were recently changed to Stickers. And Stickers have to conform to a standard. Which means that the version of the [Migrating Ancestor template that used a 75px flag] is no longer an approved template. But it is in use on more than 500 profiles (see the template's [what links here] page).

Stickers go in the text - below the first heading on the profile but before the Sources heading (see [Help:Stickers] for details). So it's not just a question of removing "75px flag" from the template name, the template also needs to be moved to an appropriate place in the text.

Can you help with that? I'll give it a week, but then I'll request an editbot action to change {{Migrating Ancestor 75px flag to just {{Migrating Ancestor ... this will clear the use of the retired template but will leave them where there were - mostly all before the first heading (which looks pretty bad).

So do I understand correctly, that we just need to move the template down (above sources) and don't need to edit the template?

Apparently it depends which template you use. If it's just Migrating_Ancestor template, you just need to move it.

If it's the Migrating_Ancestor_75px_Flag, you have to change it to Migrating Ancestor and move it.

Duh. I changed my templates to Migrating Ancestor a couple of weeks ago but did not move them to the biography. !

Hi Isabelle, I looked at a few of the profiles listed and they seem to have flags from everywhere, which had me wondering how complex this could be, if each flag needs to be exchanged for same with different dimensions.  Will be glad to help if just need to delete flag and move template.

to

AND move the template under the  == Biography == heading. You only need to remove the "75px Flag" from the first line of the template, all the rest stays unchanged (fortunately!). Check the result, it looks great.

urgent: Please hold off on additional changes, as they are being reversed. I appreciate the help, but I hate for folks to waste their time (I don't know about y'all, but it took me 10 to 20 minutes for each profile changed, since the ones I was working on had so much information in the template). We can all spend our time better elsewhere & just leave this to editbot.

Oh dear!!! Have done at least 200 and some of them have relocated the small style to a place that the full template will not look good.

I sincerely apologize Pat! I think you and I both were working hard to retain all the information from the template in the profile while editing down what was actually included in the sticker to make sure it was as attractive as possible.

I just created a new category & set the Mirgrating Ancestor 75px flag template to add it - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Pages_and_Profiles_Using_a_Retired_Template

So now folks will have a way to find & correct their own profiles before editbot does it for them.

ok- that issue was resolved. We've now got 174 profiles left to change.

I'll go through tonight and add a comment on them with a heads up/link to this G2G that we'll be editing/moving the template so we don't catch someone by surprise again.
