Anyone seen this about registering to remove ads in profile?

I was about to edit the profile and saw this and this is a first for me....Profile created in 2011 and this blurb added in early 202. Was this an old thing or someone just using artistic license?

A blast from the past. As I understand it, at one time membership in WikiTree required an invitation from another member.

And it's still true that logged-in members don't see the ads that unregistered people see.
I guess I don't remember ever seeing ads, even when not logged in. So, that bit threw me for a loop. Thanks for the explanation!
