I am hoping to qualify for a pre-1500 certification badge.

Hello all,

My name is Bianca, and I am trying to get my pre-1500 certification, as I have some family records I am hoping to add. One of the requirements was that I have 2 posts in the G2G forums, so I figured I'd introduce myself, and see if anyone had any tips you would give an aspiring genealogist.

Thanks

Sources. Never add a fact or statement to your genealogy or "ours" without adding a full and complete source citation.

Don't know what a full source citation is? Wikitree help page. Citation Machine (try Chicago Manual) to help you out at first

Anne is correct!! In addition, here are a few tips!  Keep in mind that the application is asking for what is needed so take it very seriously! Look at example profiles. Make certain you understand WikiTree guidelines and standards for profiles including how to use inline citations. Take a look at your pre-1700 profiles and see if they need work first. Make sure that your sources for pre-1700 profiles meet the requirements which were given when you took the pre-1700 certification test. Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it!

Yes I know that some of the profiles I created before I took the pre-1700 certification don't have as many sources. I will make it a priority to go back and go through them and make sure they meet the requirements. Thanks for the help!
There’s not a one of us here that won’t tell you the same! We are always going back and improving our first profiles! The reason why we are so careful with pre-1500 profiles is because they have so many descendants.

I have to add, a G2G post from Robin...

If you need a pre-1500 mentor, she is the one.

And thank you! for wanting to be pre-1500 certified!

I’d also encourage you to find a profile about which you have a question, and use g2g to discuss the question.

For example, you might have a question about a conflict about an ancestor’s parents or spouse? Your g2g question might be “What is the evidence for the parents of...?”
