On the census I cannot read the sons name. He is 15 on line 9 below Adeline Woodson.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6QB9-JRP?i=86&cc=1401638

The name on the census appears to me to have been written as "Jno," which is an abbreviation for John. The initial looks to have been written as the letter "N."

Hope that helps, Bobbie!

Hi Bobbie,

I agree with Lindy.

Line 9 is Jno as repeated on line 24

Looks like G L. The L may be an S, but, on line 12, the "S" in Sarah looks to be distinct from her middle initial; in Line 1 same page the "L" in Lucinda appears to be the same as G L's middle initial.

EDIT: Also, the "G" appears to be the same as a "Garner" near the bottom of that page, and "Gill" on the preceding page.

EDIT 2: I misread the question. Read it as he is ON line 15, rather than AGE 15. My apologies.

Thank you so much. I was thinking the same thing but really wanted another opinion!
Were you looking at the correct line? Line 15 appears to be in your answer; however the question was for Line 9.
Thank you all so much!!!!  Going with John~

I see Jno as well, but I have always interpreted "Jno" as Jonathan . . .

I've always found it odd that a 4-letter name had (or even needed!) a 3-letter abbreviation!

Here is a link to a list of some commonly used (or not!) abbreviations for given names:

Apparently Jon is the abbreviation for Jonathan; now we know!!
