Question

Hello all, do you have an interest in people born in New France between the start of the colony of Canada (in St-Lawrence valley) and 1763 when France ceded its territory to England?  Then join our project.  To do so, answer this question so a leader can award you the badge, and follow the instructions on this page:

I have been working on my Acadian genealogy recently making great breakthroughs and finding new resources and thought it was a good time to review the other side of my French family tree. My family was from St. Laurent area the family name is Salois (or Saloue, Salsis) - aka Sallaway here in the US. I went back to Quebec a few years ago and visited the family church. There are only about 100 Salois listed in Wikitree and it would be nice to have them included in the greater Quebec Project. I look forward to participating in another great Wikitree project and adding this family.

hi Morgan,

the project only covers up to 1763, ie when the English renamed the area Province of Québec, previously was Canada, Nouvelle-France.  The project name is somewhat misleading, but no concensus has ever been reached on a more appropriate name for it.

The Acadian project has time constraints also, there is a tag for the descendant of a person who is within the timeframe of the project but was born outside the project timeframe. Does this project have such a category tag to add the the post 1763 decendants?

no Morgan, we don't, for one thing there are a gazillion people it could apply to.  Acadians are much fewer to start with and a lot of them perished or got lost somewhere unknown with the deportation.

I am interested in joining this project - I have adding early Québécois family to my own family line, then extended family, and now I'd like to look at whole parishes, especially the earlier ones.

I'm from Quebec and the great majority of my ancestors are as well.

What I'm wondering is if we could (should?) make the biographies and details in both languages on profiles of people from Quebec.

Has it ever been thought or discussed? Thanks!

hi Ken,

For the Filles du Roi and Filles à Marier, those sub-projects include getting the bios done in both languages.  For those with no descent, I've been doing them mainly in French, if someone has an interest in translating them afterwards they are welcome to do so.  But definitely French bios are appropriate for Francophones.

When I made my tree, and I wrote the dates, I saw some people who went from New-France, to the British Colonial america and wondered how they felt. A few of them even got to  the Canada-Uni

Hello Lyn, welcome aboard!  Please get familiar with guidelines on the project page aso to names and location names.  Also, looking at your tree, I see you haven't reached us yet on WikiTree, so I suggest before you create new profiles in this area, that you do a search for them, there are enormous numbers of early pioneers already in our tree.  Your badge is coming up.

My northern New Brunswick ancestors had connections to early Quebec settlers. Not sure if they were also Acadians or not but I am keen to figure this out.

just took a look at your tree, just from the names in there I believe you are better served joining Acadians project.  New Brunswick territory was part of Acadie.  We do collaborate between the two projects, and there is some overlap of course.

Je m'intéresse au Quebecois Project puisque le premier de mes ancêtres à mettre les pieds en Amérique fut Jan (Jean) Chauvin (ou Cauvin) aux environs de 1690. Je demeure incertain de sa date d'arrivée mais je la déduit à partir du fait qu'il s'est marié à Boucherville en 1696. Là où le projet m'intéresse particulièrement, c'est de remonter au-delà des parents de Jan ...puisque je me bute à un cul-de-sac à Fresquiennes, dans la région de Rouen en début de XVIe siècle.

Jean Chauvin est l'ancêtre dont vous parlez.  Pour remonter plus loin en France, c'est le projet France qui serait plus pertinent.  Mais vous êtes tout de même le bienvenu parmi nous.  SVP vous familiariser avec le lignes directrices à propos des noms de personnes et de lieux sur la page du projet.  Faudrait obtenir la certification pré-1700 pour aller plus loin dans ces recherches.

Bonjour à tous, en voulant améliorer le profil de l'un de mes ancêtres et de ma lignée,  j'ai vu qu'il fallait d'abord s'enregistrer dans ce groupe. Je trouve que c'est bien de collaborer ensemble à creuser l'origine de nos ancêtres. Au plaisir.

Bonjour Benoît, je vois qu'on est cousins éloignés.    Je ne sais pas sur quel profil vous vouliez travailler, mais si c'est un profil avant 1700, faut être certifié pre-1700 avant de pouvoir éditer ces profils.

Entretemps, svp vous familiariser avec les lignes directrices sur la page du projet, à propos des noms de personnes et de lieux.

Mes ancêtres se sont établis à l'Ile d'Orléans, Qc, Canada. Ils sont venus de Normandie, France. Du côté de la famille de mon épouse, il y eut une brève incursion aux États-Unis mais leur enfant, né là-bas, est revenu au Québec. / My ancestors established themselves at Ile d'Orléans, Qc, Canada. They came from Normandie, France. In my wife's genealogy, there was a brief incursion in the US but the only child born there returned to Québec.

greetings from indiana;  quick question, i understand time frame for quebec/new france and similar projects have a timelime up to 785 range,  is there any flexability this time frame. my great great granddad born 1790. i understand at that time population that time,place grew very quickly and incrased almost expotentially,,  please address this time frame topic, i am clearly interested.quebecese and canada project

hi Wayne, not entirely sure I understand your question.  Québécois project technically ends in 1763, anything after that comes under the Canada project's Québec sub-division.

My paternal side has been in Nouvelle France from the beginning. Louis Herbert is a direct grandfather of mine.

I am a Gariépy. The first one arrived from France in the 1600s. My family was here before there was a Québec.

Hi all! I've been a genealogist specializing in research in Quebec and Acadia for more than 20 years now. My paternal grandmother was Quebecoise and her lines have deep roots along the St. Lawrence river since its early settlement. I'm happy to help out with this project in my spare time.

Marie-Marthe Poyer b 1710 Chambly, Quebec married in 1724 to Jean Monty who was a soldier born in France.  That is our direct line coming through their son Francois Monty b1736.  There are many collateral lines of course.  Francois served in the Revolutionary War in Hazens Congress's Own Regiment.
