I wanted to share this family photo of Jane Weeks with the community. Location: Ohio, United States. Date: Before Nov 1882.

I love this picture of Jane Weeks.  The information on Jane says that she was born in 1809 and died in 1882 and that this photo was taken a couple of years prior to her death. Just guessing, I would put her at 69 in this picture.

At first I thought she was wearing a mourning hat, but saw that she died prior to her husband, so the bonnet she is wearing is very cool.

Nice ruffle around her neck, and I bet her dress would be very nice looking if we could see all of it. But since your family has held on to this precious picture for so long, we cannot see as much as we would like.

Another beautiful photo.  The natural aging of this photo would indicate to me it has been well cherished.  She looks like what a gramma, or granny would look like, full of life, love and dedication to family.

Thank-you, she was a busy housewife and had good old Dutch ancestry which must have made her an even more dedicated homemaker.  Her grandfather, John Thompson, was a Revolutionary War participant and spent a few month in the dreaded 'Sugar House' prison in New York.  It is said that he escaped through benefince of a British cousin. I love the sweet twinkle in her eyes. She must have been a fetching young woman raised in a rather comfortable family in New York state.

A beautiful grandmother. She looks like she wants everyone over to her house for the holidays. What a spread she puts out for Christmas, so big the food is in two different rooms. She had an ice box and not a refrigerator and she had a coal stove. Home made bread that she toasted on the coal stove and home made butter. Let me guess there would  be a pecan pie and a pumpkin pie on the window sill. The whole house would be hot from Grandma and the coal stove. See that? Grandmas are so lovable. All handmade presents for the little children.

 It is a very accurate picture and she was a lovely little lady who bustled around the kitchen of her farm house kitchen in the apron she always wore.  Memories have been passed down in the family for generations through letters and diaries.
