Shared Photo: Uncle Iggy during WWII

I wanted to share this family photo of Ignatius Osik with the community. Location: Unknown. Date: unknown.

 We believe this photograph was taken in the US before  he was deployed.  Uncle Iggy was in Company D 716th Military Police  BN MPC in the US Army He died in 1960 and was interred at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, New Jersey USA.

He is holding a Thompson sub-machine gun, AKA the "Tommy Gun."  

This little humdinger carried a 20 or 30 round magazine and/or a 50 or 100 round drum in .45 caliber - quite a heavy pistol bullet.

Just forward of the pistol grip, you can see the trigger well, and just forward of that, you can see the space where the magazine or drum goes - in this photo, the submachinegun is completely unloaded as you can see in this photo:

Also, one stripe - that makes him a private 2nd class - probably very early in the war.  If you can find his service records and know the dates he was an E2, this can help identify where the photo was taken.

Thank you for explaining the Thompson to me especially with the pictures. Now I will understand more when I read about it or watch it. I see that US Army private ranks are a little different than the USMC. Again, thanks for the explanation.

This is a great picture of your Uncle Iggy. I love his name, and I want to thank you for his service to our Country.

I love the background in this picture, and I am trying to figure out if this was taken on base. The shape of the top of the buildings looks more like barracks than homes.

Thank you Cheryl. Also I believe it was before he was deployed. He was  an MP in the US  guarding prisoners after his time in Europe. So it could be later also.
