The Scotland Project covers profiles for everyone born in what we now know as Scotland from the earliest times until today,

See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scotland  for details.

The Project is organised into teams and the main requirement for membership in the Scotland Project is that you join a team and our google group.

The Teams are :-

  • County Teams: There is a team for each of the historic counties of Scotland. If your ancestors come from a particular area, or you have interest in a particular county, then one of these teams might be the right ones for you.
  • Profile Improvements Teams: We also have teams for each area of profile improvement, from Sourcerers to Data Doctors to the Categories Team. These are often in conjunction with the functional associated projects. These teams are great for people wanting to do one aspect of work across the whole of Scotland.
  • Managed Profiles Team: This team is for people who are interested in carrying out specialist work on some of our "Flagship Profiles" for Scotland. Members of this team must have the pre-1500 badge.

If you would like to join the Project then we would love to have you.  Please post an Answer below.

The Scotland Project is closely aligned with the Scottish Clans  Project.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scottish_Clans

To join that project please post an Answer below.

If you are already a UK badge holder please do not post below but wait till you are contacted by Susie McLeod who will pass your name on to each Countries Membership Team to take forward - Thanks for your co-operation and patience.

i have always had an interest in all things Scotland and would like to join the group to search my roots.  My grandparents name were McDanel and their ancestors emigrated from Scotland in the 1700's.  Supposedly I had a distant relative that went with Cromwell from Scotland to Ireland.  It has been noted that we are part of the McClaren clan and I would like to look into that more extensively.
Not sure if this is still open. I'm just joining, but have a lot of interest in my Scottish heritage. I think I have several lines headed that direction.
Hi Carson

I'll contact you by PM to take this forward.

This is an answer and reply to my super late response to the clan project moving. I am a descendant of the Armstrong clan from Liddesdale, Scotland and Northern Ireland. I would like to continue being a part of the clans project, submitting my Armstrong family information and any other helpful information as best as I can present.

Thanks and Cheers!
Hi Sarah

I'll have Jackie contact you to take this forward.
Hi, I would like to join the Scotland's project team.

Through my ancestor Lucretia Boyd dau of Robert Boyd 2nd of Trochrig (Boyd - 13709). It seems I have links back to the Lords Boyd of Kilmarnock, Sir Robert Colville of Ochiltree, Gilbert Kennedy of Denure 1st Lord Kennedy, Alexander Gordon Earl of Huntly, Sir Robert Chalmers of Gadrith, Sir Hugh Campbell of Loudon and John Cunningham 4th lord Caprington.

This is a new discovery to me and I have much work to do but am unable to link up my Robert to existing trees as I am not yet pre 1500 certified.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Kerry in Brissy

Hello Maria,

Would like to join the Scottish Project to bring recognition to all(most) who have connections with the beautiful country of Scotland. https://www.scotland.org  Interesting to note - There are about fifty million people worldwide who claim Scottish ancestry; from Australia and New Zealand, through Europe to the USA and Canada - and I proudly say -  I am one of them.

Greetings! I would like to join, "The Scottish Project" , to find more about my family's name origin and history. Counties I would be interested in, would be: Dumfriesshire, Perthshire, Argyllshire, Fife, and Kirkcudbrightshire (among others). My surname transitions from Greear, to Greer, to Grierson, to (supposedly) MacGregor, and these locations are where my ancestors used to live. I would like to do what I can do help learn about my family's past, and help others along the way. Thank-you for reading.

Hi Maria,

I'd like to join the Scottish Project and the Scottish Clans Project.  I am happy to help wherever I can or whichever group needs the most help.  I am from the United States but can trace my roots to Scotland via the Stewart, Grant and Hamilton family.  Thank you in advance.

Hi. I'm very interested in joining the Scotland Project.  My family come from Haddington and have been in the area a very very long time - as far back as 1125.  I'd be interested in the Midlothian area. I live in Australia but have spent years researching my Scottish ancestors.

Hello, Maria & Susie -

Evidently, I need a project to work toward Pre-1500 certification.  I think that I'd be happiest with Scottish Clans.  Within the past couple of days, I've cleaned up several Abercromby & related profiles.

Best -

I would like to join the Scottish Profile Improvements Team.  Many of my paternal ancestors came from Scotland.  My 5th great grandmother wrote our Scottish family history which, unfortunately, was destroyed by a house fire.  However, her grandson rewrote what he remembered from that transcript and it has been hand down thru the generations,  I have lots to learn and hope to be of some help improving profiles.  Thanks

Hi. Im Leon Carl Thom of South Africa. Thom is a sept of Clan MacThomas and I am busy tracing my roots back from South Africa to Scotland. At the moment I have hit a wall in my research. My Thom family comes from Prussia and due to the renaming of things and places after the war, lack of records and variations of spellings it is extremely difficult to find any info on them.

I would like to join the Scotland Project to learn more about my newly discovered shared DNA with ancestors who traveled from Argyll, Scotland to Virginia > Kentucky > Texas via my maternal line. Always been facinated with Scotland and now thrilled to learn I actually have Scottish roots.

Hello, all. I have a great interest in this project. I descend from clan Keith; notably Edward (de)Keith (KEITH-1588). And I would like to discover all I can, and thereby, contribute what I can.
by Matthew DeVilling G2G2 (2.5k points)
Hi Matthew are you interested in joining the Scottish Clans Project or both ?
Hi. I am such a novice at this, I fear I will not be too helpful. However, I will work on either, or both. Let's say the Scottish Clans Project for now. Does that sound like the more reasonable option?
Seems like a plan !   Welcome to the Scottish Clans Project.

Hello,  I would like to be added to the Scotland Project (Renfrewshire team) and Scottish Clan Project (Semple clan).  I have already been added to the Google Group for the Scotland Project and requested to be added to the Scottish Clans group. I have not received badges for either project to date.
by Living Anderson G2G6 Mach 7 (80.0k points)

Hi Thom,   Sorry for the delay in welcoming you to the Scotland Project.   I understand we just needed to know which Team you wanted to join.   I'll sort this now and add the Project badge to your profile.

Welcome to the Scottish Clans Project !  Here's a link to our Clan Sempill page.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Clan_Sempill Would you like to sponsor/manage/develop this page for the Project ?

Thanks, Maria!  Just one minor item . . . I do not see Scottish Clans as one of my Google groups yet.  My email address for GMail differs from what I use for WIkiTree so pm me if you need to know that email address.
Hi Thom,  sorry for the delay.    That's you added to the Scottish Clans Project google group.

I would like to join the Scotland project to see if I can find out anything about my husband's grandfather - I have had brick wall after brick wall. I know he was here in Australia for a while as he married here and had three sons but no nothing of him before then and nothing after his last son was born in 1909.

Thanks

Hi I would like to join the Scotland Project and would be very happy to complete any orphan trail training you may wish me to undertake.  I have already done so for the England Project and I am part of the Scotland Cemeteries project.  While I myself have no relatives known to be Scottish my Husband has and I need to be able to better research them.  I also believe it will greatly improve my work with the Cemeteries Project.  Please say Yes!! lol
