Looking for the parents of "Michael Mulcairn" - he was at an orphanage in Clifden Galway

Michael Mulcairn is my great grandfather.  He entered the Royal Navy from the orphanage at Clifden in Galway.  I have attached the National Archive Record of his service which is the only information I have regarding his earliest years.  I strongly suspect that the Navy changed the spelling of his name as the primary variants in Galway seem to be Mulkerin or Mulkerrin or Mulkerrins or Mulkerins.  His marriage certificate identifies his father as John Mulcairn

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

I looked into this and found a baptismal record for a Michael Mulkerns ,Baptized on 1 sep 1855 in Galway.  His parents were listed as Patt Mulkerns and Margaret Flaherty. I found  a baptismal record for Patt Mulkerins 12 Oct 1838 in Galway. https://registers.nli.ie//registers/vtls000634217#page/1/mode/1up

I added a number of sources and links to Michael's biography for you to look at.

Thank you.  That was my initial thought as well (thank you I did not have the actual document), but I had doubts because of the distance from Galway City to Clifden.  I also have not found any DNA matches in the Galway area.
