The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, June 30, 1947 Lester Abbott, 54, of Grand Rapids died suddenly Sunday morning at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Abbott, in Sheridan. Formerly a telegrapher at the Ionia, Saranac and St. Johns depots of the Grand Trunk railroad, Mr. Abbott had been at the Grand Rapids depot many years. On his vacation Mr. and Mrs. Abbott and their youngest son, Alden, arrived at the home of his parents in Sheridan Saturday where they planned to spend part of his vacation. Feeling ill Sunday morning, he went to lie down on the bed and died almost immediately. Mrs. Abbott is the former Glennis Sayles, who taught in Prairie Creek school and was at one time the Saranac correspondent for the Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard.
Surviving him besides his wife are two sons, Arland and Alden, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Abbott of Sheridan; one brother, Roscoe, of Sidney.
His body was returned to his home Sunday evening. Funeral services will be held in Grand Rapids Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The I.O.O.F. lodge of Saranac will have charge of the grave services at 3 p.m. at Saranac cemetery.
