Richard Allen Billups, "Allen" (Reverend)
Allen was born March 8, 1827 at Cabell County, Virginia, a son of Samuel Billups (b 1796 Botetourt Co.) and Sarah W. Chandler.[1][2]
Allen married on 22 March 1848, at Kanawha County, West Virginia to Mahulda "Hulda" W. (Moore).[2][3] They were married by a minister of the United Baptist Church.

Between the 1850 and 1860 Census reports, it seems that Richard and Hulda removed from Wayne County to Cabell County where they may have purchased a farm of 535 acres.
On 4 December 1869, Richard helped organize the Big Hurricane Baptist Church in Wayne County, West Virginia.[1] There the PO address of Allen's home was Hubbardstown, Butler District, Wayne county, West Virginia.
Allen Billups died on 12 September 1906 at his home, post office address Hubbardstown, Butler District, Wayne County, West Virginia. He is said to be buried at the Old Billups Cemetery on Big Hurricane Creek, Wayne County, West Virginia. The actual grave site has not been found.[6]
The 1850 Census for the 66th District, Trouts Hill, Wayne County, Virginia found Richard A. "Billsips" 23 years old, farmer with no number of acres specified, and Huldah "Billsips" 22 years old, all born in Virginia.[7]

Also in the household was Robert Moore, 24 years old, "boatman"or "coalman"?
One door away was Samuel "Billsips." 54 years old, farmer with 1000 acres and his wife, Sarah 44 years old and their children.[7]
The 1860 Census for Cabell County, Virginia found "R A Billups" age 33, a farmer with 535 acres, value 100, and Huldah Billups age 32, all born in Virginia. Sons James and Robert were attending school.[8]

Now Samuel Billups is no longer living one door away. Apparently, Richard Allen had moved.
The 1880 Census for Butler District, Wayne County, West Virginia found Allen Billups, age 53, with his wife, Huldah, age 52.

Elbert F, age 10
Nonnie, age 5
Macager Frasher and daughter, Adelade (Billups) were living next door with their children.[9]
The 1900 Census for Butler District (southwest side), Wayne County, West Virginia found Allen Billups, age 73, with his wife, Huldah Billups, age 72.[10] She had given birth to 14 children: 10 living at that time.
