Colonel John Boynton served with 18th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

John Boynton was born on September 08, 1736 in Rowley, Essex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay. His parents were Ephraim Boynton and Sarah Stewart. [1] [2]

He married first Elizabeth Jewett on June 08, 1761 in Lancaster, Massachusetts. [2] Elizabeth died the next year.

He announced intentions to marry second Elizabeth Beaman on December 16, 1762 in Shrewsbury, and married in Lancaster, Massachusetts on January 13, 1763. [2] [3]

Together they had these children:

  1. Jewett Boynton, b. 1763,[3][2] d. 1843.
  2. Ephraim Boynton, b. 1764,[3][2] d. 1842.
  3. Beaman Boynton, b. 1767,[3][2] d. 1849.
  4. John Boynton, b. 1769, d. 1850.
  5. David Boynton, b. 1771.
  6. Elizabeth Beaman Boynton, b. 1774, d 1833.
  7. Sarah Boynton, b. 1776, d. 1836.
  8. Hannah Boynton, b. 1778, d. 1779.
  9. Nancy Boynton, b. 1780, d, 1844.
  10. Cyrus Boynton, b. 1782, d. 1844.
  11. Paul Boynton, b. 1789, d. 1861.

He married Phebe Jewett on February 05, 1794.

Lieutenant John Boynton of Winchendon held that rank in Captain Abel Wilder's Company in Colonel Ephraim Doolittle's Regiment of Minute Men April 19, 1775. He was commissioned April 6, 1776 Captain of the 8th Company in Colonel Nathan Sparhawk's 7th Worcester Co Regiment. In 1777 he had two short terms of service in the same regiment one at Bennington and the other in the Northern Army. [4] [5] [6] [7]

He died on March 21, 1825 in Wethersfield, Windsor Co., Vermont [8]

Burial: Grout Cemetery, Perkinsville, Windsor Co., Vermont.
