Michael Emerson was an early settler in Massachusetts.

Please note he was not the son of Thomas Emerson of Ipswitch. He was the son of Thomas Emerson of Cadney, Lincolnshire, England. See his father's profile for a discussion of the two men.

Michael Emerson, received a grant of two cow commons, and four acres of meadow in Haverhill, Mass., March 9, 1671. Married April 1, 1657, Hannah Webster, daughter of John and Mary (Shatswell) Webster, of Ipswitch, Mass. He was annually chosen a sealer of leather in Haverhill, from 1675 to 1702. Of their fifteen children the eldest, Hannah, born Dec. 23, 1657, married Dec. 3, 1677,Thomas Dustin. She is the heroine of the Indian Massacre. ^[1]

Thomas Emerson, born probably in Searby, co. Lincoln, about 1589, was buried in Cadney, co. Lincoln, 25 Dec. 1657. He married in Cadney, 10 Aug. 1612, Margaret Froe who died before 1657. Thomas Emerson was apparently the youngest child of his parents and to him his father, Alexander Emerson, bequeathed property in Howsom and Cadney. Evidently Thomas went there to live and spent his life farming his land.

He was one of the wardens of Cadney parish, and his well-written signature on the parish register for a number of years shows that it was only through sickness or the infirmities of age that he was obliged to make his mark to his will.
