Thomas Emerson, born probably in Searby, co. Lincoln, about 1589, was buried in Cadney, co. Lincoln, 25 Dec. 1657. He married in Cadney, 10 Aug. 1612, Margaret Froe who died before 1657. Thomas Emerson was apparently the youngest child of his parents and to him his father, Alexander Emerson, bequeathed property in Howsom and Cadney. Evidently Thomas went there to live and spent his life farming his land.

My 9th great grandfather via his son Jonathan
(Cont.) He was certainly dead by September 1719 when, at an Inferior Court of Pleas, John Pengry and Moses Day deposed that they saw Michael Emerson, deceased, sign the deed dated 21 May 1699 (this is written in the margin of the deed in Essex County, MA, Deeds, Vol. XXIX).

(Cont.) 15 March 1714(/15?) Josiah Heath, witness to a deed of gift to son Jonathan Emerson dated 21 May 1695, made oath, etc.

16 February 1715(/16?), Nathaniel Ayer and Josiah Gage, witnesses to a deed to son John Emerson dated 11 July 'in ye Eleventh yeare of His Majties Reign' (Pope, in The Haverhill Emersons, places this in the year 1713), made oath, etc., '& his wife Hanah Emerson voluntary gave up her right of Dower before us.'

The above deed is interesting in that after the signature, in a separate, undated (though possibly from the time Hannah relinquished her right of dower) statement, is: 'I Hanna Emerson Mother to ye said John doe freely give up all my right to my sd Son of the above premises as Witness my hand. ye marke of Hanah Emerson.'

18 July 1709 is the date of Michael Emerson's will, not the date of his death.

He was alive as late as 24 November 1715 when he acknowledged a deed of gift to his grandson Michael, son of Joshua. (He was possibly at Dover at that time; see https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9ZZ-YYS8?i=539&cc=2106411&cat=209907; son Samuel was at Dover by Jan 1699 when his daughter Hannah was born there). This appears to be the only Essex deed acknowledged by him.

18 October 1714, John Pengry and John Day, witnesses to a deed of sale to sons Jonathan and Joshua Emerson dated 21 May 1699 (the other being Moses Day), made oath that they saw Michael Emerson sign, seal, etc. In a deposition dated 15 March 1714/15, all three witnesses made oath, etc.
