Robert Forest Gilbert was born on February 14, 1926, in Hiawassee, Georgia, to Hassie Phillips and William Franklin Gilbert. ^[1]

In the 1940 census Forest (age 13) was the brother-in-law of J H Church in Laurens Township, Laurens, South Carolina, United States.^[3]

He and Ruth (Gilbert) Robinson had one son together.
