Arnold Schumacher was born circa 1590 in Kriegsheim, Alzey-Worms, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, a son of Arnold Schumacher, born 1560 in Germany and Catherine Dedenborn, his wife ^[1] Arnold married Agnes Niegen Roesen, daughter of Hans Roesen and Kunigunda Moeller, his wife. Arnold was deceased sometime before 15 Jan 1655 when his widow Agnes came before the rent controller to name trustee for her sons Peter and George, who were both of age, and guardian for her minor children, Arnold, Treinchen (Catherine), and Adelgen (Adele). Reportedly Adele was the daughter of Theiss (Mathias) Bonn, Agnes' son-in-law. The parenthood of Catherine is not certain. ^[4]

The family was Mennonite and persecuted which led to Peter and George eventually coming to North America in the 1680's.^[5]
