Biography

Charles was born 1806 in Shaftsbury, Vermont.[1] He was the son of Charles Wright Spencer and Prudence. [2] Charles married (1) 31 Oct 1831, Emily Huntington at Shaftsbury. Their first child, Charles Henry died as a young child in 1839. Charles' family is living at Shaftsbury, Vermont for the 1850 Census. [3] Emily died 8 Mar 1853 at Shaftsbury. [4] Charles married (2) on February 5, 1856, Miss Lucy B Draper, the daughter of Allen and Polly (Burnham) Draper of Shaftsbury. [5] In 1858, Charles and Lucy left Shaftsbury with Charles' youngest children, Wright and Horace, and relocated to Troy Township in Will County, Illinois. Charles’ daughter, Mary remained in Vermont. In the 1860 Census, Charles and Lucy are living in Troy Township, Will County. Illinois.[6] By the time the 1870 Census is taken they have moved within Will County to Plainfield. [7] Charles passed away 28 Feb 1874 at Plainfield, Will County, Illinois and was buried there in the Plainfield Township Cemetery. [8]
