Census
Census:
Date: 1790
Note: On the 1790 Census, Leonard is age 13 and with Benjamin in Dutchess Co. He also appears as head of household in the Town of Clinton on the 1800, 1820 and 1830 Censuses. Another Leonard Worden (probably a son of Jesse and Ruth Dart) appears in Lorraine, Jefferson County, NY on the censuses of 1830 and 1840.
Note: Leonard is shown with 1 male under 10 (Montrose), 2 males 10-16 (Howland and Orrin), 1 26-45 (self), 1 female 10-16 (unknown), 1 16-26 (unknown), 1 26-45 (wife Amy); working in Commerce. Notice there is a Timothy Howland living three doors away. Did Leonard name one of his sons for this neighbor? Has David/Daniel already left home at age 10?
Note: According to notes written March 2, 1960 by Gladys Evina Borden Chapman, Leonard was married to an Indian. Now that we know Leonard's wife was actually Amy Montross, it appears the Indian connection may be on the Montross side, since Jacob Montross, Amy's grandfather, is said to have had an Indian wife.
Note: The children shown here, other than Samuel Montross Worden who is proven, are presumed, based on Census data showing them in the same place and time with their mother Amy. The dates of birth are in line with the children reported for Leonard in 1800 and 1820.
Note: Amy's siblings and their offspring were frequent visitors to the Worden home for at least two generations, per letter written in early 1940s by Flo Mann.
