Jens Meilstrup was born in Denmark

Jens was born March 19, 1800 in Sankt Mortens, Støvring in Randers, Denmark. His parents were Peder Jensen Meilstrup (abt.1768-1826), a bell caster, and Maren Nielsdatter (abt.1774-1847). The day after Jens' birth he was christened at home.^[1]

On October 3, 1823 at the age of 25, Jens married Lisabeth Jensdatter (abt.1803-abt.1879) in the Rosenholm Chapel in Hornslet parish in Randers, Denmark. At that time he was working as a bell molder. Witnesses at the marriage were P. Meilstrup, likely his father as he was also a bell molder, and A Christensen, a breeder, both of Randers.^[2]

Just two months later, Jens and Lisbeth welcomed their first child, Ane Meilstrup (1823-1892) while living in the Sankt Mortens parish of Randers. Four more children followed.

After the births of his first two children, Jens' father Peder Meistrup died. The probate record lists Jens as his son at age 26 and provides a record of Jens' siblings and mother.^[8] Around the same time Jens and his family moved to the Kristup parish, where his third child was born in 1828. And then in 1829 the family moved to Veggerslev parish^[9] where his fourth and fifth children were born. The 1834 census shows the family living in the Veggerslev parish ^[10]

Sadly, at the young age of 35, Jens died on April 27, 1835 in Veggerslev. His death record notes that he was working as a brazier in Veggerslev and had been born in Randers. He was buried on April 30.^[11] Probate was carried out immediately in Veggerslev at the estate Grenå Byfoged, Djurs Nørre-Djurs Sønder Herredsfoged.^[12]
