Biography

The only documentation for Madlin is that she is listed in Margaret See's 1757 will as Madlin See.

Some See chart list her as Mary Magdalene who married an Ashcroft Roach though there is no compelling evidence of that except that Ashcraft Roach had a wife name Mary Magdalene. Serious Roach researchers have discounted this union. To continue the Roach claim, others attribute a Roach marriage to Margaret d/o Frederick See who supposedly married a Greenberry or Littleberry Roach who was killed in the Muddy Creek attack in 1763. We know Margaret was married and that her husband was killed, but there is no mention of his name and no descendants of this union as the Indians killed their only baby.

I add this note only for possible future research. Ashcraft Roach appears on Amherst records from 1755-1815. No evidence that Madlin was even near Amherst, VA to have made this connection at the time of his marriage ca. 1760. Roach married a 2nd wife, Elizabeth Fowler, spinster in June 1789.

Coincidentally Ashcraft Roach does show up on the Mathews Trading Post records in Greenbrier as an "Amherst B'hunter" at different times between 1771-1773. Apparently he had been married a decade before then.
