Biography

Alexander C. HUFF (abt. 1803 KY - killed by Champ FERGUSON 18 May 1862 in TN) was the son of John and Prudence (Milsap) Huff.

He md Mrs. Martha "Patsy" (SALLEE) FERRELL (1821 TN - Jan 1891 Pall Mall, Fentress County, Tennessee^[1] ) and they lived in Fentress Co, TN, and Wayne Co, KY.

Children Include:

1. Andrew Jackson (1833 - 1875 KY) believed to be the person buried on the old MOORE farm just east of Glasgow, KY. He md Nancy SALLEE and mostly lived in Fentress Co, TN. Ch incl James B.; William Prentiss; Sophronia; Gertie; and Hattie. In 1880, Patsy HUFF lived with this family as mother of Andrew.
2. Diadama (1839 - 1919) md M. V. B. DUVALL (1835-1863, killed during Civil War).
3. Pamela (1837 - not listed on 1873 estate records).
4. William Preston) 1842 - ) md Patsy SUBLETT, and ch incl:
5. Lucinda (1845 - d before 1873) md Eli HATFIELD (1843 - killed in 1875). Her children were with her brothers in KS in 1880. In 1868, Eli HATFIELD probably lived in Overton Co, TN.
6. John (Mar 1847 - alive 1900 Barren Co, KY) served in the Union forces in 2 units. He was a pvt in Comps H & K, 30th Mtd Inf in early 1864 but deserted. That fall, he joined Capt Beaty's Comp of Independent Scouts of Fentress Co, TN. His application for pension was turned down because of the standing charge of desertion. John HUFF md (1) Sarah A. HARMON ( - 13 Jul 1876. In 1880, In 1880, Clara G. HUFF (1873 TN) was g. dau. to Levi HARMON in Fentress Co, TN; and she was listed by John HUFF as his living child in 1892. John md (2) on 27 Jul 1881 in Barren Co, KY, to Sarah Catherine GLASS ( - d 1896/1900), and their living ch in 1892 were John T.; Mary; Eddie; Lois; and Rebie Jane.
7. Micajah Phillips (1848 - ) alive in 1873.
8. Landon C. H. (1849 - ) md Juann SANDUSKY (1853 TN) and lived in Jefferson Co, KS in 1880. With his hh was niece Jennie HATFIELD. This family was not identified later.
9. Cornelia (1850 - ) not identified in later records.
10. Mary Clementine (1851 - ) md (1) Flem WILLIAMS (killed) and (2) Francis CROCKETT (killed after 1873).
11. James M. (Dec 1852 TN - ) md Mary C. ?????? and lived in Jefferson Co, KS in 1900 and 1910 with ch Alva D.; Rosa F.; Clara b.; and Lida M.;
12. Thursey Jane (1855 TN - 1934 Poweshiek County, Iowa) md John MOODY (1844 - killed 1890). In 1893, she married Hans Christian PLAMBECK, went by Christian; however, they divorced prior to 1900.
13. Eleander Elizabeth (1857 TN - ) md Millard HURST.
14. Alexander C. (1858 TN - ) md Mary ?????? (1861 KY - ) and lived in Jefferson Co, KS, in 1880. He had definitely been a minor in 1866 when he was listed in the John HUFF lawsuit. There was another Alexander HUFF family which can be confused with this one.
15. Florida (1861 TN - ) md Bud PARMLEY.

In the John HUFF lawsuits of 1866, Alexander's minor ch were listed as Thursey Jane; Elenor Elizabeth; Alexandre; Florida; Mary; James; and McPhillips. In the settlement of the Alexander HUFF estate in 1873, the heirs were listed as Didama DUVALL; Andrew; Nancy (SALLEE) HUFF; Micajah P.; John; Landan; James; Thursday J. MOODY; Ellender E. HURST; Alexander; Mary CROCKETT and Francis CROCKETT; and Lucinda HATFIELD and Eli HATFIELD. In 1868, Eli HATFIELD was one of the heirs of Alexander HUFF who were sued by Martha HUFF, the administrator of the estate. At that time he was awarded an alias in Overton Co, TN.
