Edmund Morse was one of the first settlers of Groton, Vermont. When the town was organized on March the 28th, 1797, Edmund was elected one of two Tithingmen. He was the first settler of the north part of Groton and served as their first military captain. It is said that his sword was actually an old rusty scythe. He built the first saw and grist mill. His daughter Sally was the first baby born in Groton.[1]

Thomas Morse and Elizabeth Barlett had a son in Bradford named Edmand, born Oct. 1, 1764. This profile appears to be mixing our Edmand and a gentleman named Edmund Morse who was born in Groton, VT July 10, 1764 and died in Groton, VT on Sept. 13, 1843. The Edmund from VT's parents are a Thomas Morse and Rebecca Cole. Can I help you get these profiles straightened out please since I am trying to link my ancestry into the family of Thomas Morse and Elizabeth Bartlett through Mary (you may think Molly)...see my notes from the genealogy books that show her name as Mary not Molly. I have the vitals from Bradford, Mass. I can only find 3 children born to Thomas and Elizabeth as Edmand b. 1 Oct. 1764; Josiah b. 23 Oct. 1762 and Mary (Molly) b. 19 Dec. 1760. Mary married my ancestor, Andrew
