Biography

Hannah Disborough (Desborough) was born about 1644 in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut Colony. Her parents were Nicholas and Mary (Brownson) Disborough.[1] Hannah's birth year is based on her presumed birth order as the third of five children, with birth years guessed as 1641 and 1642 for the first two, and a 20 December 1646 baptism record for the fourth child, "Pheabe Disbrow", and the fifth child born on 1 February 1648/9.[2] The siblings are discussed by Coddington in TAG 38:209-211, The Brownson, Bronson, or Brunson family.[3]

Hannah married John Kelsey by 1668, based on the birth of their first known child in September of that year. Their marriage was probably in Hartford, where the Disborough family resided. John had been born and raised in Hartford, and had moved to Killingworth by 1664. (John's wife was originally said to have been Phebe, due to an early mistake by Savage. This error was corrected in the Kelsey Genealogy (pp. 45, 47) and further discussed in the The Brownson, Bronson, or Brunson family article, both cited above).

John and Hannah had children, all born in Killingworth:[1][4]

  1. Hannah (1668), married Joseph Wilcox
  2. William (1670), died young
  3. John (1671), married Phebe Crane, then widow Esther (Edwards) Bristol
  4. Joseph (1673), married Hannah Hayden, then widow Abigail (Dunsill) Mack
  5. Esther (1675), married Nathaniel Parmelee
  6. Phebe (1677/8-bef.1709)
  7. Lydia (1680), married John Lane
  8. Stephen (1682), married Concurrence Hayden
  9. Josiah (1688/9), married Elizabeth Garvice

Hannah's husband John died on 22 July 1709, in Killingworth.[4] He is assumed to have been buried in the old cemetery there. He has a Find A Grave: Memorial #18761825. He died intestate, and widow Hannah and son John were appointed as the administrators of his estate. The seven surviving children are mentioned in the probate. The three sisters had received their portions of the estate when they married. The four brothers agreed to divide the property.[1]

Hannah wrote her will on 15 August 1712, mentioning her six surviving children (Lydia died in 1710). Hannah died on 23 October 1718.[4][1] She has a Find A Grave: Memorial #162947336
