Biography

According to The Waddeys of Williamson County, Tennessee[1] . . . "Anthony Waddy (1) was born in England ca. 1685. He immigrated to Virginia and settled in New Kent county. Anthony first married Sara who was born in 1696 in New Kent County. He later married Anne Parke. . . . Anthony fathered eight children: . . . "

Death

It has been said that Anthony Waddy apparently died in early 1742, as William Allen was appointed overseer of the part of the road, in Louisa County, for which Anthony Waddy had been overseer.

March 14 1742 William Allen is appointed Overseer of the road from the County Line o that part of the road whereof Thomas Christmas was overseer, also to that part of the road whereof Anthony Waddy was overseer.[2]

Research Notes

He is variously referred to as Anthony Waddy, Jr. or Anthony Waddy II, which would seem to indicate that his father was another Anthony Waddy.

07 March 2024. Removed Samuel Waddy (1653-aft.1726) and Sarah (Owen) Waddy (abt.1662-abt.1743) as parents. Links were added in March 2023 with no supporting documentation.

The Waddeys of Williamson County, Tennessee does not show an Anthony Waddy as a son of Samuel Waddy (1653-aft.1726) who married Sarah (Owen) Waddy (abt.1662-abt.1743). In fact, it does not suggest any parents for this Anthony.

A few websites display the following statement [exact wording] as proof that this man's father is Samuel Waddy, but none of them include any supporting evidence or images from an actual Bible.

Waddy family bible, Samuel Waddy born in 1653/54 and his children listed as Anthony Waddy 1680, Samuel Waddy jr. 1684 Jane Waddy 1684 (m. William Street), Mary Waddy b. 1 Jun 1687, Elizabeth Waddy b. Oct 1689, and Judith Waddy b. Jan 1701.[citation needed]

There is a reference to a Waddy family Bible in The Waddeys of Williamson County but it refers to Samuel Waddy (1771-1836) who is of the wrong generation and does not appear to have a son named Anthony.

Waddy-53 and Waddy-3 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same father, same birth year. It will be necessary to unlink the mothers. Leave a note that the mother is one or the other of the two wives of the father.

In the 19th century and before, "Jr." was not used as it is today. See https://genfiles.com/articles/senior-junior/#:~:text=Whenever%20two%20persons%20of%20the,was%20older%20than%20the%20other.

Whenever two persons of the same name lived in the same jurisdiction, some means was needed to differentiate them from one another. The use of Senior and Junior was the most common means of doing so – meaning merely that one person was older than the other.

Waddy-53 and Waddy-3 are not ready to be merged because: Waddy-3, Anthony Waddy II would indicate he is the son of Anthony.

Waddy-53 is son of Samuel. This needs to be investigated further before merging.

Waddy-53 and Waddy-3 appear to represent the same person because: initially a rejected match but the dates are the same and share a spouse.
