Hugh was the fourth son of James, seventh Earl of Douglas[1]
The name of his wife is not known but they had issue:
Wounded and taken prisoner at the Battle of Arkinholm in 1455. He died by execution shortly after. He left one son, Hugh Douglas, Dean of Brechin, who died unmarried and seemingly childless.
