Ensign John Pratt, son of Lieut. William Pratt, was born February 20, 1644. He first settled on lands in the old parish of Saybrook, given him by his father about 1672. When his father died the homestead on Essex Point fell to him, 1678, and he removed to the latter place. He was a large landholder in Saybrook and also in Hebron, CT
He was a Blacksmith by occupation and his shop was located near the spot now occupied for the same purpose by a descendant. He often appears on the records as "Ensign", more often as "Sergeant" to distinguish him from another of the same name. He was a man of some distinction and represented his town several times in the General Assembly.
He married, 8 Jun 1669 to Sarah, daughter of Thomas Jones of Guilford
He died in the year 1726. The inventory of his estate was presented 31 Aug 1726, and amounted to one hundred and nineteen pounts, sixteen shillings, three pence.

Thanks for the comment, I asked in 2015 for a person to split them apart...clearly, they never did it, just deleted themselves as profile manager. I will take this on.
Haven't been too active for couple of years. I have a request for merger of Pratt-10433 and Pratt-4796 who are (is) descended from one of these John Pratts and being rusty thought it prudent to inquire if all is fixed with these John Pratts and that I wouldn't be complicating anything by proceeding with the requested merger.
I question that he was called "tailor", as his occuptation was blacksmith and sources list him as being called "Ensign" & Sergeant" to distinguish him from another John Pratt - perhaps the other John was called "tailor". He was not married to Mary as the dates overlap with the birth of his children with Sarah. I am guessing that the death date of 1692 belongs to the other John Pratt also, as this John' s will was read in 1726.
Are there sources for John Pratt (tailor)'s parents and true birth date? I had understood from the Pratt book that his parentage is unknown. Savage doesn't give parental information either. Nor does Torrey give any birth info for John Pratt (tailor).
It appears to me from the Saybrook Vitals that Elizabeth was born to the John Pratt (Ensign) that was married to Sarah Jones. the listing for her birth says it was Pratt (Ensign) vs. Pratt (Taylor). Perhaps we almost have enough information to split the two John Pratt's and their families apart.
