Biography

Martha was born 27 April 1886 (picture of tombstone on Find A Grave shows 27 Apr 1886, death certificate states she was 70 years old in 1956 = 1886). She was the daughter of Christopher Columbus Burgin and Alice J Goodson She died in 1956.^[1][2][3]

1900 US Census ^[4] Old Fort Township Old Fort town, McDowell, North Carolina, United States All are born in North Carolina.

Mattie married George W. Stepp on March 22, 1903 in McDowell County, North Carolina. Mattie lists here birth year as 1885 on the marriage record as well as her parents, C. C. Burgin and Alice Burgin. They were divorced after 1910. ^[5][6]

In 1910 Matte E. Stepp and George W. Stepp are living in Black Mountain, Buncombe County, North Carolina. They have no children. ^[7]

She traveled to Texas with her brother around 1911, see notes below from Echoes in the Mist.

Later divorced and married second to George Smith Henderson. She and brother James Garland went to Texas ca. 1911. She had at least one daughter. ^[17]
