Biography

Elias was born about 1769. He was the son of Asahel Tryon and Abigail Unknown. He was baptized 23 April 1769 along with his twin Elijah^[1]. Between 1792, when his son Ashel was born in the US, and 1800 he moved to Yonge Township, Ontario where he had a wife and three sons in the 1801 census, two of whom are Ashalbel and Ephraim. One of the daughters was born between 1802 and 1803 and the other before 1809. He lives there the rest of his life and died in 1831.

Research Notes

In the will of his grandfather, James Tryon, Elias is named: "Elijah and Elias, sons of Asahel my eldest son deceased". His mother is also named: "Daughter in Laws, vis. Abigail and Bethiah"^[2]. Abigail is wife of son Asahel and Bethiah is wife of son James. Both sons are deceased by the date of the will, 13 Nov 1780.

Both Elijah and Elias are in the census records of Yonge Township, Leeds, Ontario in 1801-1804 [1] [2] [3] [4]

In 1801 he has a wife and 3 male children. In 1802 he has a wife and 2 male children. In 1803 and 1804 he has a wife, 2 male and 1 female children. There is also a David Tryon and wife (no children) nearby in 1804 who may be an adult son or nephew, though that would mean he or his brother had a son by age 19. The Fairchild family (in-laws) also live near.

In the census of 1809 and 1810, Leeds & Lansdowne (Rear) Twp, Leeds, we find Elias, Anne, Ephriam, Jenny and Mary Tryon [5].

There is also an Elias Truon in the census of Yonge Township, leeds, Ontario in 1811 [6], Elias Trion in 1819 [7], Lyas Tryon in 1820 [8], Elias and Asel Tryon in 1821 [9], Elias, Asel, and Ephraim in 1824 [10], and Elias and Ephrim Trion in 1825 [11].

In 1826 the census areas were reorganized and where they lived is now Yonge Twp Rear, Leeds. Elias and Ephraim are still there in 1826 [12]. In 1827 there are two Elias Tryons (based on the ages one must be Ephraim) [13], Elias and Esil in 1828 [14], and in 1829 there are no Tryons in that census or after. It is unclear whether they moved or census boundaries moved but that is the last I find them in the area.

The date of death here is widely reported but undocumented.
