Research Notes
She was previously connected as the daughter of William Paine and Anna UNKNOWN, however, according to Anderson's Great Migration, Pope, in the book Pioneers of Massachusetts..., "misrepresented the passenger list entry for this family, including Susan as a part of this family, and omitting son William". Suzan Payne, age 11, traveled on the same vessel as William's family, but she was listed separately from the family. No baptism records were found for her in Lavenham, Suffolk, and no records were found for her in New England, per Anderson. She has been disconnected pending further proof of her parents and last name.
Sources reviewed, including Torrey's New England Marriages before 1700, Settlers of Beekman Patent, Ancestors of Jacob Shaffer and his wife Cordelia Hunt... by Josephine Frost, all have Sarah's last name as Unknown.
