Biography

She is the daughter of Walter Brundage and Angeline Barney. [1]

Daughter of Walter Wesley Brundage (WWB) and Angeline (Angie) Maude Barney Brundage. Helen was reared in Alfred, NY. Received BA from American University in Washington, DC. MSW from University of Chicago in 1943 in Social Welfare Administration on two scholarships: one from the University and the other from the State of NY. Helen was a social worker (in both public and private fields) as an administrator in Hudson, NY; Orleans County, NY; Adoption Consultant, State of Connecticut; Director of the INFO LINE which she created, and for which she was made Social Worker of the year in 1975. Helen was selected as Social Worker of the Year, 1975 for the creation of the above mentioned hot line. A short, stocky woman, looks like her mother; adores all form of games; received an athletic letter both during high school and college. Lawrence, her husband, graduated from the Univerity of Michigan in Electrical Engineering, held 50 patents, a Fellow in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Society; is a writer, lecturer, inventory, and consultant. Lawrence is a short, slight man, reared on an Indiana farm; creative in his outlook. Helen and her husband, Lawrence Fisher, enjoyed music. Helen played the drums, while Lawrence played the trumpet.

Norm Fisher said in Descendants of Benjamin Brundage, compiled by Norman Fisher in FamilyTreeMaker.com: Helen received a MS from the University of Chicago School of Social Work. She was an Administrator of Social Services in NY and CT where the family lived. She developed and implemented the InfoLine concept...calling one phone number to get help from a variety of agencies.

I (Helen) still remember our visit with Eli Fisher family and I remember that Miriam and I enjoyed our visit with Maris and John William. I recall hearing about Maris' death, but I do not recall any other visits or contacts with the Eli Fisher family. The trip was taken before we had a car. We went by carriage, somewhat like a six passenger car with two wide upholstered seats, pulled by our faithful horse, Fannie. The trip of 15 miles must have taken us two or three hours.

Here is a memory in the form of a Facebook post on 6/4/2015, from Karla Fisher, who is the daughter-in-law of Helen Fisher and the wife of Helen's son, Norm:

This coming Friday, June 5, 2015 it will be 15 years ago that Norm's Mom passed away. Helen was a strong, outgoing, wonderful and loving woman, and I thank God that Norm and I got to spend 3 months with her during her final days. I have her cane resting against my dresser in our bedroom so that it is the first thing I see in the morning when I get up, and the last thing I see at night when I go to bed. My memories of her give me strength and the ability to endure whatever comes my way. I love you Helen, and I will miss you always. The photo was taken December 3, 1999, at my parents house after the rehearsal dinner that Helen took us all out for. Norm and I were married the next day. She was not diagnosed with her brain cancer yet. That happened on February 29, 2000. That is when Norm and I went to North Carolina to live near her for 3 months. I am sure she is in heaven with Larry playing the drums while he plays his trumpet, as they sing "their" song, Blue Moon!

Karla Fisher wrote the following comment on Facebook on 6/5/2014: This is Norm's Mom. Helen Brundage Fisher. Today marks the day that she passed away, 14 years ago. She died 6 months after we were married. I did get to know her pretty well even though our time was short. We got a call February 29, 2000 from the place where she lived and were told that she had an inoperable brain tumor. We went to her and stayed with her until the end of May and we had to come home to our kids, who had been staying with their other parents, and we got a call on June 3 telling us we should get back. Norm and I went back. She was in a coma when we got there around 1 a.m. on the 4th. She responded to us through most of the day on the 4th by squeezing our hands once or twice for yes or no. Norm and I read her scriptures, prayed and sang hymns to her all day. When she did pass awhile after midnight on the 5th, she sat about half way up and reached for the ceiling, opened her eyes and smiled. Then she laid back down and was gone.......It was an experience of Joy and Calm assurance to be with her. And it was one that I will never forget. She was a good, kind and loving woman. I miss her. We love you Helen. You are very missed.
