One researcher looking for info on William Black and Jean Wallace stated they had a daughter named Arminda Black. Arminda shows up in the 1850 census for Fountain County, Indiana, living in a household of a Crumley family. In the census she is listed as 19 (birth year 1831) and born in Indiana. Per Indiana marriages Jean married a Henry Crumley in 1840 after William Black died. Arminda is listed with Henry and Jean in the census.

The 1830 census for Fountain County has a household headed by a “Wm” Black, listed as 40-49. His wife is listed as 30-39, giving a birth range of 1791-1800, and Jean was born in 1794. William apparently died between 1830 and 1840.

Jean and Henry also appear in the 1860 census for Fountain County, but not in the 1870 census.

The data on Find A Grave for Jean presents a potential problem. There is no picture of the tombstone but it appears data has been transcribed from it. The transcribed data has no date of birth and a date of death of 26 April 1876. It also states “wife H. died at 51 years, 7 months and 6 days of age”. If this is correct then the Jean buried there was born in 1825 and could not be the Jean who was born in Blount County, TN. It is possible, if the tombstone was very eroded, the “5” can have actually been an “8”.
