Biography
Daughter of John Anderson
Sarah was born in 1809 or 1810 given the ages listed for her in several census reports. She was likely born in Dickson County, TN as the census reports list her birth state as Tennessee. Her father John G. Anderson and relations moved from Barren County KY to Dickson County TN about 1806. Sarah died after 1880 as she appears for the last time in the 1880 Hickman County census, paralyzed and bedridden.

- 1870 Census, Hickman County, TN, Sarah Bates age 61 husband "Samie" age 61, Lidia (Lucinda) Bates age 26 still at home, William Bates age 37, plus several "Sesco" (Sisco) children - perhaps the Bates' orphaned grandchildren?[4]
- 1880 Census, Hickman County, TN, Sarah Bates age 71, widowed, living with Martha Bates age 53 and several Turnbos, relationship not clear. Sarah's father and mother born NC, Sarah born TN. In this census Sarah is bedridden with paralysis. [5]
