Half-sister of the other children of Paale Pieters.[1]. Nieske was most likely born after 1662.[2]
Nieske Palis married Dirck Jans, Master Carpenter from Oudkerk on January 20, 1689 in Oudkerk. At the time of her marriage Nieske lived in Oenkerk.[3].
Nieske and Dirck have the following children on record:
Nieske was baptized Dutch Reformed on December 31, 1693 in Birdaard.[8] On February 25, 1694 Nieske and her husband became members of the church in Oudkerk[9]
Nieske passed away in October or November 1711.[10]
Nieske's first (and second) male child is named Palle, the third one is named Jan, after his paternal grandfather. That means that Palle is the name of Nieske's father. At the time of her marriage she also lives in Oenkerk, in the neighborhood of Giekerk, where all the other children of Palle Pieters with wife Jetske Rommerts) were born. One of the children, Pieter Palle ended up living in Oenkerk. Nieske could therefore be a child of Palle. This Palle passes away around 1673.[11]
The birth years of Nieske's alleged siblings, children of Palle 1, are ca. 1650, ca. 1655, 1658 and 1660 (and maybe not all are listed: the baptism records of Giekerk (which falls under Oenkerk) start in 1658). It is more likely that Nieske was born after 1662, which makes her 26 or younger at the time of her marriage, than before 1655, which would make her older than 34.
On the other hand, another Palle Pieters married Jetske Tjeerds from Rijperkerk a couple of weeks after 22 sep 1667. Palle was baptized on 25 December 1667 in Oenkerk. They had the following children: Pieter, bapt. Oenkerk 21 jan. 1672, Aafke, bapt. Oenkerk 7 jul 1678. This Palle was a Master Carpenter when he married, just like Dirck Jans, Nieske's husband.[12] This makes a connection between this Palle and Nieske possible. Another fact that Nieske shares with Palle 2 is that Nieske was also baptized as an adult. Perhaps Palle 2 was originally not Dutch Reformed but Catholic or mennonite, and perhaps Nieske was baptized Catholic, or not baptized as a child at all. A third point that Nieske has in common with Palle 2 is that his children are baptized in Oenkerk, whereas Palle 1's children are baptized in Giekerk.
In all, it is likely that Nieske is the daughter of Palle 2, and was born in 1667, before Palle 2 became Dutch Reformed. At the time of her marriage Nieske was 22.
