Biography

William Graham was a member of the aristocracy in Scotland.

William Graham, 5th Earl of Menteith was the son of John Graham, 4th Earl of Menteith and Marion Seton.^[1]

He succeeded to the title of 5th Earl of Menteith in January 1564/65 on his fathers death.^[1] He was under the age of majority at the time but he was known and acknowledged as the Earl of Menteith despite the crown holding the earldom.^[2]

He officially received the earldom from the crown in November 1571, even though he had still not attained his majority.^[2]

He ratified his marriage contract on 24 January 1572-73 so was probably born around 1551.^[2]

He was invested as a Privy Counsellor in Scotland in 1577/78.^[1]

He married Margaret Douglas, daughter of Sir James Douglas, 7th of Drumlanrig and Christian Montgomerie, circa 16 May 1571.^[1]

He died in September 1578.^[1]
